After having bought, tried, and returned to the store a couple of pellet pistols in the $75-$85 range (CO2, 8-shot magazine, different styles), I have decided to go to the next level and spend $150-$200. The cheaper ones I tried were:
A. Undependable operation; missed feeding pellets frequently.
B. Inaccurate; like 5” groups at best at 3 yards.

One that seems to come up frequently is the Beretta FS92, whether blue or nickel.
PyramidAir, for instance, offers the nickel model for $195.

My main purpose is to supplement dry fire practice at home, which I already do quite a bit, to improve my IDPA scores. I am interested in dependable operation and accuracy of perhaps 2” groups at 5 yards. (Is that unreasonable for today’s repeater CO2 pellet pistols? My now defunct Crossman 600 could do that easily!)

• Does anyone have any experience with the Beretta FS92 air pistol?
• Any other that you would care to recommend, including sources?

Thanks!

Alex

I have a daisey Beretta 92 air pistol that I bought around 1989 or so. I still have it, although it's probably been 10 or 12 years since I tried it. I haven't felt the urge to waste $5 for pellets and CO2 only to fund it no longer works because a rubber seal is cracked now or something.

Anyway, it worked great when I used it. Never seen the one you are talking about, though, so I don't know how it compares.

Get a single shot Benjamin Sheridan if you're looking for trigger time with actual groups.

Most air pistols give patterns.

I've got a CO2 Umarex 92FS, licensed by Beretta

It's a lot of fun and yeah, it'll shoot under 2 inches at 5 yards. I can happily make a beercan dance around at about 10 yards (and I'm no marksman). At 20 to 25 yards the groups (in my hands, at least) open up to about 8 to 12 inches. Shooting single-action and from a rest I can do a little better, but I haven't shot it much at that distance. Oddly, it seems to be sighted-in for about 20 yards and always shoots high at closer ranges. I haven't figured out how to fix this yet.
I worked out, some time ago, that the double-action pull comes in at about 9lbs and perhaps 4 lbs in single action.
It's heavy at 44 ounces, and it has Beretta's thick grip, making it quite a handfull, but for plinking and dry-firing practice it's fine.
As I understand it, all these 8-shot rotary-mag pistols are a bit picky about what they'll digest. Mine likes Hobby, Gamo "Rockets", plastic-jacketed "Prometheus", and Bisley "Pest Control". Doesn't like Marksman pointed pellets and some others. You'll have to experiment.
Have Fun!:)
