I wonder if this means the new SxS Royals will be anodized blue aluminum?:barf::thumbup:

Man, but it'd be interesting to be there when the old file-wielding H&H types get *schooled* on Beretta's new-fangled ways.

Kinda like Tata waking into Rover as the new boss or BMW taking over the Mini name.

Todd.

They've been schooled for a while now; the "best" English makers have been having the Italians make guns for some time. Now, the English guys put the final file strokes on it so it can legally be stamped "Made in England", but the guns are Italian in the core. And in the last year or so, even the English have embraced some modern CNC/EDM equipment

No kidding?
That sucks in some ways but not in others.
Last I toured the *factory* was '84 or '85 and it was still piles-o'-files, 100 year old aprons and apprentices working for peanuts. The shooting fields were an OUTSTANDING experience back then too. Very informal and at the same time, very structured.

Maybe they will make parks that fit in the first place. Less filing. I used to ride English motorcycles. Once I guy I knew had a collection of fine English guns, some engraved for English royalty. Many of them worth over $50,000. He even let me handle one. They were so beautiful. He is gone, I wonder what happened to them.

That touches on one of the funnier aspects of my visit. One young guy apprenticing was tasked almost solely with one job.

When I asked Nigel, Alfred.... Benedict, whatever his name was, why they had a rack of finished guns in one room, his response was interesting.

Those weren't for sale as they already belonged to customers. Each had lost some part that required them to be returned as a complete gun to fabricate and fit the parts. Some - were merely screws and those weren't necessarily there simply to match engraving but also thread pitches alone in some cases.

Noted that the press release touted Holland & Holland - then thought to myself that Beretta is no slouch in the history department either. I wish them success (and if I had the money.... either outfit would be a fine choice for a great firearm...).

I used to ride English motorcycles.

So did I, Triumphs. I used to say "the parts falling off of this motorcycle are of the finest British quality".

Now I ride a Kaw W650, which is like a '60's Bonneville clone. Shockingly enough, the Japanese bike has been trouble free from day one.

Guess we'll have to see if the customers for H&H guns are still willing to shuck out the big bucks now that it's part of an Italian owned conglomerate.

Lol. Yeah. I loved my Norton. Don't forget, lights by Lucas, the prince of darkness. I also had a Ducati single in the 60's. It was even worse. Glad you like your W650. They are pretty cool.

I too had a Ducati single back then, they had the only electrics, Marelli, that even Lucas could laugh at.

Neither Britain nor Italy made reliable vehicles back then (still?), but their firearms seem to go bang every time.

Some of the Italian companies are capable of making very impressive high grade traditional double guns, with very impressive prices to go with them. Beretta happens to be one of those companies. Zoli is another one of the high grade Italian gun makers.

But the bird fields of Argentina is where the Beretta company shines, with the Beneli and Beretta guns. they come and they leave in one piece. With most outfitters also renting them. Some of their guns have over 500K rounds through them.
