Ok...really, REALLY wanting to hear simple and plain input on this topic, but I am interested in why there seems to be such a backlash for Beretta's. I have owned very many throughout the years and I have found the 92/96 platform (compact/centurion as well) to be a very accurate, reliable and well engineered firearm.
It seems that THR has quite a few people who belive otherwise with Beretta. Everyone has their own personal preference for whatever reason...be it ergonomic (feel) or weight/size of the weapon, etc.
As for me, I love my 92's and 96's but I could never ever carry them concealed but I do know of many people who do carry them daily as CCW and have no issues whatsoever.
I am wondering if anyone has specific or technical issues with their Beretta or if the 'Beretta Bashing' I have heard is something more of a subjective and personal preference thing.

I am on the same boat. I love my beretta to death. It is my ccw carry. I put a thousand rounds downrange in a couple trips to the range one month. I realized that when I was done I had not had a single jam. The recoil seems very "smooth" with the 92. It is very easy to put follow on shots very quickly and it never hurts to have a gun that holds 16 rounds(15+1). I wouldn't change it for anything.

I have a 92FS & 96G as a civilian and used the M9 in the military. I also have HPs and 1911s, which I also carried (1911) in the USMC. My complaint with the 92 is the slide safety. It's awkward for me to flip the safety/decocker off and on, whereas the HP and 1911 saftey is ergonomically simple to use. The 92/96 isn't as accurate as the 1911 or my Sig 220s. It is highly reliable, I've never had a FTF or FTE and feels good in my hands (big hands) as do the other pistols. I've carried the Berettas CCW, but prefer the slimmer 1911s.:)

My results have been overwhelmingly good

I've had 8 Berettas, 5 of which I still own.

1990 vintage 92FS (and G model slide I also use). In October the slide failed to lock back. 1st Malf that wasn't actual bad ammo (2 rounds that wouldn't light off). It was an original magazine, not once cleaned. estimated round count is between 17,500 - 19,000. Original locking block. 16 years is a pretty darn good amount of time to get out of what are considered 'wear' parts :)

2 Vertecs, varying round counts. 1 has failed to lock the slide back on a couple of my older - and newer mags, I may send it in for warranty work because the slides lock back in the other Vertec and 92...

PX4- Damn good gun. I was not really impressed with the cougar(below) but this gun has been flawless in the ~4k rounds I've put through...

1201FP Very High Grin Factor.

8040 Cougar. Not my best pistol. I traded it. It was mostly reliable but would periodically choke on rounds. Very, very rare, but notable because the other Berettas didn't do it. Seriously, maybe 4 or 5 rounds. My biggest grip was the trigger. It was way heavy, stacked and I had CHS (couldn't hit ****) with it. A d model hammer spring helped, but the cougar trigger had a lot of take up... The last 2000 rounds or so I put through it were flawless, but the trade was too good to pass up...

96FS. It worked fine with factory ammo, my only justification for selling was to trade for...

M96 Elite 2. This gun was kind of a let down. Initially, it was reliable, fun, accurate... However, about 7500 rounds I broke the extractor. Less than 1k rounds later, I broke the replacement they sent. I put my last spare in and traded it on a USP - the 1st of 4... The stainless .40 extractors were apparently a known problem.

The PX4 sees a lot of carry duty. The 92 well, it's just kind of like a really good friend. Which reminds me I still haven't ordered those mag springs

or if the 'Beretta Bashing' I have heard is something more of a subjective and personal preference thing.
You've answered your own question. It IS a subjective and personal preference thing.

As a died-in-the-wool 1911 guy, I still think highly enough of the M-92FS platform that I own three. Those who know handguns (not those who base their opinions on all the internet tripe or gunshop rumors) accept Beretta pistols for what they are: accurate, highly reliable and well-made.

No, I don't care for the safety/de-cocker system myself, but I did carry the M-9 for many years on duty in some bad places. No, I am not a defender of the 9mm cartridge, either, but it is easy and fun to shoot, and I never really felt as though I was carrying an underpowered, too-small round ...

Yes, the 92 is honkin' big pistola, not greatly suited for CCW, but it's true worthiness comes as a duty weapon, range or competition gun.

Notwithstanding the earlier (overblown) controversy about locking-block failures and slide fractures, and not to mention the Army's well-publicized misadventure with procuring substandard magazines, the 92FS/M-9 and its offshoots are excellent pistols.

De-cock lever

As the M9 was the first gun I was ever trained on, I have found that the decocker is very easy and when I carry a gun that doesn't have one.....THAT feels strange to me.
I have average size hands with long fingers, maybe that is the reason the long trigger reach has never affected me.

Excellent generalization.

I only own about 35 pistols at present, been shooting regularly for over 40 years, and don't like the model 92 or 96. The trigger, grip, ergonomics all just seem wrong to me. But they work fine for some people so I don't bash them.

Now if you ask if you should buy a model 92 or a BHP, I'll feel free to suggest the BHP. That's not bashing, it's being asked for personal opinions.

I love my Beretta's, but I also love my Kimber. That being said, if anything I'd be a Glock basher if I was a lesser man, as it is, a Glock doesn't fit my hand well, the ergo's suck to me, and it has NO astethics, however, it is a fine weapon, and is used everyday by many fine men and women policing our streets.

Some people just can't accept that there can be more then one product to fill a roll.:neener:

Beretta

Send to to Beretta USA along with $70 for a trigger job. It will be the smoothest pistol you will ever own.

I have a 92FS. When I received it, it shot well, but the trigger was a bit heavy and different to anything I have ever used. The barrel had a rough crown as well, but if I benchrested it, the thing shot a great group with just about anything I fed through it. We don't enjoy the level of factory back up here that you guys in the states do, so I find it easier to rectify things myself. Got the trigger done and the barrel recrowned for about what it would have cost me in return insured freight and they wouldn't have touched the trigger.

It works well now (it worked perfectly before) and I can shoot it a bit better offhand with the nice trigger. If I was going in harm's way with it, I wouldn't have touched it. I like the ergonomics of it, it is the only pistol that I can drop the slide without altering my grip.

That bit of daylight between the barrel and the end of the frame on the lhs is a bit different, but it is as accurate as all get out. Now if I could only get it to go Condition 1 ! :-D

Mine's a keeper.

The first thing that struck me about the Beretta was its aesthetics To me, it is just flat beautiful. Secondly, the ergonomics were perfect. They just flat worked for me. Thirdly, the workmanship is top tier.

And all that before even putting a bullet downrange. Shooting the damn thing is just a total pleasure.

Is is among the most reliable pistols ever manufactured and the most durable. It is dead solid accurate. The slide is buttery smooth remaining the standard by which all others are judged.

Much of the animus that the gun attracts is due to the US government choosing it to replace the venerable 1911 and the choice of 9mm caliber - neither of which are legitimate criticisms. It remains a superb weapon - among the finest pistols ever produced. And, in case you haven't figured it out yet - I love mine. And next week I will be the proud owner of a DAO Steel 1.

I don't have a Beretta 92 now, mainly because I tend to have to sell guns to have money to buy other guns. And, after owning one a long time, I wanted something different. But the gun is a fantastic gun. Never a problem. Don't know why there are all the haters either...

I've owned my Centurion & inox for 15 years now...1000's of rounds later & both have proven to me that they work & work well. Plus, as has been mentioned, they're beautiful.
As for the bashing - you'll find bashers vs. all guns - Berettas, SIGs, HKs, Glocks, S&W's, Brownings, Rugers...you name it, you'll find a group of people who don't like'em! ;) If you've found one you like, joke'em!

It seems that THR has quite a few people who belive otherwise with Beretta

they're the 1911 people. ignore them.
I never had any jams of any kind from my 96 or 92. I can't say the same from my colt and springfield 1911. what a pos.
