I bought a new Beretta M9 commercial (broke the seal in front of me) today and took it home to field strip and I had to use a little bit of force( just a little bit not alot) to get the slide off the frame. Is this normal for a brand new Beretta, will it get easier over time?

If the answer to Reaper's question is YES, the magazine was out... then we'll need a better description of the force it required. If you held onto the slide too hard while engaging the takedown lever you didn't let the slide detach itself naturally via the spring. Your results may vary, but when I field strip my 92FS, I keep a light grip on the slide and let the slide TRY and fly off the frame.

How did putting the slide back on feel?

Also, since it is brand new, the slide/frame might need some range time to get used to each other. It won't take long at all for that.

Mine just kinda pops off when I hit the takedown lever. Maybe try shooting it a bit more? You gotta be gentle with these Italian types. 8)

If your mag was out, no it should not take any force at all. In fact if you let gravity help the slide should just about slide off on it's own. I've been shooting Berettas since not long after our military switched to them. I love them. They are the smoothest non custom factory guns I have ever used.

It has been just a short time since Beretta got a new contract for 450,000 M9's. Hopefully that has not caused them to let QC slip.

I think I found the problem, part of the slide on the left hand side, is angled inward and is getting hung up (scraping) on the enlarged hammer pin head

I will try to take some pics of it

and mag is out

I took it back to the store I bought it from and they exchanged it for me.

Great store you have there! Most stores will only send the gun back to the manufacturer for repair for you!
They were great to me, customer for life with them. :)

I went in to get them to help me get it shipped to Beretta and after the gunsmith looked it over , He and the Manager decided to exchange it for me. Awesome.
