I ask a lot of silly questions.

I own a Beretta 92fs, and hands down it's a great gun. The only thing I would like to see differant on it is the addition of a rail. Have looked into some of the aftermarket 'add-on' rails, but wasn't my cup of tea. Might have to ultimately resort to one anyways, but to the point.

Since the Beretta's M9A1 is interchangable with my 92FS, is it possible/has anyone seen a place to get just the lower (grip/frame) to the M9A1? I understand all the upgrades from the M9 are down there anyways, but it's mostly that rail what interests me. Funds are a little short, and while I wouldn't mind having two it seems hard to justify getting a duplicate weapon at this time. It would seem that finding just the lower isn't going to happen, but with all you insightful folks around there's usually a helpful answer to be had.

Thanks in advance for any information.

I have owned the Beretta 92FS and the Taurus PT92AFS. Honestly man...my Taurus was a better gun (only slightly) in most respects, and it had a rail. I believe the Beretta/Taurus frames are interchangable, although I could be wrong on that (might be some descrepancies with year of manufacture, etc).

If it is indeed possible, pick up a PT92 with a rail for $350-400 and swap the two, at least while you own them.

I would definitely second RippinSVT on the idea of picking up a Taurus PT-92AF if you're looking for an accessory rail on this particular platform. Probably cheaper than a Beretta frame (if you could find one), and it's a very good gun. Last gun show I was at had a number of new PT-92AF's going for less than $400; you could probably find one used for a lot less. I especially like the design of the safety/decocker which allows you the opton of having the first round either DA or SA, depending on your own carry preference.

Try to buy a 92 Vertec frame as it has an integrated rail. I believe the frame is interchangeable with a regular 92 frame.

Thanks fellas for all the replies.

The Taurus idea seems promising, I wonder can anyone confirm the interchangability between this and the Beretta? I notice the Taurus safety is not located on the slide like the Beretta, and there is a notch in the Taurus slide that my Beretta does not have.

For what it's worth, my Beretta is sort of sentimental to me, aswell as the fact that I'm shipping out for USMC basic early next year, and would like to remain accustomed to their standard sidearm in all respects (controls etc). Would also like to keep my fancy Beretta factory walnut wood grips. Havn't seen another pair like them.

The Vertec is not a bad idea either, I've handed one and the grip is a little slim for my hands but nothing that couldn't be worked around.

The 90-Two has caught my interest in the past, perhaps soon I'll have the funds to just get another pistol and swap what makes sense on them and keep mine.

Thanks again guys, I wasn't sure that what I was hoping for was really reasonable but you all offered some good looking alternatives. Will give me something to follow up on and look into. Looks like for the time being will just stick with a surefire and the harries technique.

All the best
