Hi Guys, I am in the market for a used Beretta o/u. Now that said, what is with all the different types. silver snipe, golden snipe, plus many more. I really want screw in chokes and other than that I don't know what the differences are other than price?? Help, Thanks Mac

The Silver snipe and similar are older models that will come with fixed chokes from the googling I have done, which is why I mentioned the 68X series that DO come with screw-in chokes.

None of the 680 series guns have real engraving anyway. 687eell vs onyx? Some roll engraving and gold... And the onyx looks better. The higher grades tend to hqve some nicer wood (which everyone likes). Like oneounce said they all have the same guts you are just paying for dressup. I woukd note mobil choke vs optima choked barrels (will be marked). There is a huge difference in feel between these and i would try one of each to see what you like best.

I just glanced at the current Blue Book. There are 2 or 3 pages of discontinued Beretta O/U guns and 2 or 3 more pages of recent ones. It isn't practical to try to explain the details of each one - or retype it. :)

It might be easier if you have a particular gun you are looking at or maybe a price point.

His info is good, but it does not address your silver snipe or golden snipe - which are older fixed choke guns from decades ago - his list mentions the 68X series

According to the Blue Book, the Silver came with extractors and the Golden came with ejectors and a vent rib.
The Silver SST and Golden SST came with a single selective trigger. The Silver SST also came with a vent rib.

The Silver Snipe was made from '57 to '67.

Made in 12, 20 and 28 with fixed chokes.

Fwiw, the Model 57 E was a higher grade Golden Snipe. And there was an SST model too. No wonder nobody can keep these things straight.

Add 100% for a 28 ga.

Thanks all, I found a silver snipe and glad it has extractors and not ejectors as I reload and not found of stooping to pick them up. Mac
