Hey gang, I was cleaning my Beretta after shooting about 50 rounds at the range today, and after cleaning the barrel, I looked at the inside with a light behind it! :what: I've owned this gun for about 4 weeks, and I can't believe the extent of the pitting I see in this barrel!!!!

This gun was brand new and the dealer had to order it. He didn't have one in the shop. I've cleaned the gun about 4 times now, but this is the first time I've looked down the barrel with a light behind it. This can't be normal...can it? I've "submitted a question" on Beretta's site asking about this. I'm hoping they will replace the barrel. This looks like it was sitting under sea-water for a few months!! There is no sign of any rust or pitting anywhere else on the gun. The pitting seems to be heaviest towards the "front" of the barrel. There is no pitting in the breech of the barrel at all.

What do you guys think?

Sigh...never mind guys...I apologize...it's leading. :banghead: I've been running a brush through it for about 30 minutes now...and I got a bunch of it out. Lot better than it was, but it's gonna take awhile. After I'm done reloading the last of my lead bullets...no more. I'll stick to FMJ.

Even if it was pitting, which I'm glad it isn't, Beretta wouldn't replace it. Their customer service stinks. After dealing with them once, I will never buy another Beretta. From what I've read, I'm not alone in my assessment of Beretta's CS.

Just in case anyone is curious, I've been using these:

Precision Bullets

I have maybe 200 rounds through my gun. 50 rounds per trip to the range. Light cleaning after each session which did include a brush down the barrel. But just a quick zip zip zip and then a couple of patches.

Leading is usually caused by either shooting undersize bullets for your bore (leading in front of the chamber) or not enough lube (leading at the muzzle). You may simply need to switch to a Dardas or Missouri or Kead bullet.
