I am planning on buying a new Beretta px4 chambered in .45acp within the next few days. I went down to the gun shop today and I really liked the way it felt. I was also surprised at how light it was.I am just curious as to what other people think of this gun. Also I was wondering what the recoil and muzzle jump are like with the px4 in 45 with the rotary barrel design.
 
My first "plastic" pistol was a PX4 in .40. It's was actually a pretty good gun. I ended up selling to buy more 1911s though. For me, I can't imagine shooting .45 in anything other than a metal frame pistol. If I were buying a PX4 again, I'd go with the 9mm. After shooting a lot, my wallet sure appreciates the 9mm compared to the .45.

I actually shot my PX4 quite a bit and developed some really light loads for fun shooting. It had less recoil than a .38 in a heavy frame revolver. It was a lot of fun for punching paper and bowling pins.
 
Except for capacity the PX4 in 45 ACP is a fine weapon.
The rotary barrel does help soke up recoil. I think you will be happy.

Have you looked at the PX4 SD model?
 
First off thanks for the replies. I have looked at the .40 and 9mm models,but i was a bit concerned about the plastic feed ramp on the 9mm. Also I have heard that .40 can be a bit more snappy on the recoil than .45 plus I only shoot only shoot 2 or 3 times a month and i like the proven power of the .45. I also considered the sd model but it is a tad out of my price range and I don't really see what the extra $350 gets you beside a two tone frame and an inch longer barrel.This will also be my first "plastic" pistol because i don't really care for the the dao glocks.
 
I was thinking about buying one of these PX4 in a 45 Auto about 4 months ago, felt decent. Went back to look at it some more a 2nd time and noticed the frame to slide fit was excessive in side to side movement. It was very bad on the one I looked at, much worse than a 40 and 9mm he had in stock and those were looser than I would like to see. Decided to pass on it. So I would suggest you look it over well before buying.
 
I was down at shoot straight yesterday and checked it out it felt surprisingly light an very solid. It seemed to have little to no wiggle on the slide. I also noticed the grip feels very nice in my hand and I have large hands. It was marked $700 but the guy at the shop took it down to $579 with the extra mag and all the accessories.
 
I shot a friend's 40 S&W PX4.
I liked it so well I bought one in 9mm.
I liked the gun so well I bought the sub compact.
I liked the guns so well I bought a bunch of magazines.
I ran 9mm ammo through the guns so fast I loaded another 3,000 plus rounds.

The guns were so trouble free I made the full size one the new night stand gun.

Yes, I really like the PX4.:)
 
I bought one in 9mm about 4 years ago and i have never had a single malfunction with it. I found it to be very reliable and have very mild recoil, probably due to the rotating barrel system.
 
The slide fit is supposed to be like that to be a combat weapon. You don't want a gun too tight. Yes, it is a bit more accurate but those tolerances don't tolerate dirt, grit, sand, lint, mud well at all.

I have a buddy who owns the 9mm and the .45. Both sweet guns. I plan on getting them eventually. My friend said he thought the sights were off at 20 yards. I told him to save a round for me. When he was done he handed it to me and I knocked down a metal plate with the last right. 'Looks good to me!" I said. He just stood there, and then started laughing. Think he was trying to impress the lady he brought with him LOL.

Just FYI the 9mm PX4 does not have a plastic feed ramp.
I hope you like your .45! I plan on picking one up someday.
I'd like a 1911 too (a true classic).... but I prefer the double/single action of the Beretta for myself.
 
Ok, I know its an odd comparison but how would you compare the muzzle jump/recoil on the px4 in 45 to a 4in colt python with 357s? The reason I ask is that is that that's about all I shoot at the range, aside from my Beretta u22. Just want something to base my choice in caliber on as I am new to center fire autos.
 
The recoil of the .45ACP is much exaggerated in my opinion. What makes any caliber "snappy" is what you put in to it. I load a 185gr. Hornady XTP for my dad's 1911 govt. that has less recoil and muzzle jump than the 125gr. XTP for his GP100 .357Mag.

Handloads are well worth the money and time invested as you'll find yourself shooting and actually enjoying those pistols. (not to mention the accuracy gains achievable with a little patience).

My personal choice would be a 1911 for .45 or if it must be polymer an S&W M&P for reliability, ergonomics and aftermarket support but I'm biased so take it for what its worth. They run less than $600 and have a $50 rebate or two additional magazines.

Acc to the, ongoing, growth of, owners of the Px4 45, you're gonna be a happy camper.. Those in the Beretta Forum are spreading the good news about them..

One thing, when the mag is loaded it will feel much heavier - but a good weight.. ;)

I've had a Px4 40, now, for over 3yrs and it hasn't missed a beat, just 100% and very accurate - as long as you put the front sight ON/Over the intended target - not below it as most sights fyi.

I've had my PX4 .45 for a few years now and it has been dead-nuts reliable. I had some concerns about it when I first got it, but they have since proven to be unfounded.

Love mine, wish I had two.

I have the PX4 in 9mm (I chose 9mm because it was cheaper and more readily available during the panic of 2008). Also have the CX4 in 9mm and have four 17-round magazines and two 20-round magazines. With one up the pipe in each gun, I have 110 rounds of ammo before I need to recharge a magazine.

These are really great guns and easy to shoot. Very little recoil.

BTW: Beretta just lowered the MSRP on the PX4 Storm in 9mm to $500. It's now priced less than what I paid for mine and I got a very good deal at the time.

Beretta PX4 Storm

I shot my wifes this weekend, 9mm, and I couldn't believe how great it was. I was punching the centers out of the targets with ease. I could shoot it so much better than my P229 in 40. I hadn't really paid much attention to the gun until this weekend when I shot about 100 rounds through it. I have to get one of these guns and if I were to buy a another gun tomorrow it would be the PX4. This one happended to be the model/type G. Love the dang thing.

Plan to rent and try out the subcompact version. My G26 may be on the selling block soon!

In general, does Beretta just get overlooked? Maybe they just don't advertise or do the right marketing but they sure have great guns and the reputation. I had a 92F back in the college days but had to sell it for tuition. Wish I still had it. Oh well.
 
Ahhh ... the PX4 series ...

My wife would tell you they're trash, because they're nothing like a "real" Beretta and proceed to give you an earful of design philosophy.

I on the other hand will tell you: She's right. the PX4 feels nothing like a normal Beretta, *however* ... It's a tres cool pistol when it comes to modern production handguns. I think you'd be happy with the overall performance, just don't go into it with the expectation of a buttery smooth Beretta and the classic feel of a 92 chambered in .45.

Yes, type C is "constant" action(basically single action) and type D is double action. Both have spurless hammers and no safety/decocker.
 
I shot my buddies 9mm px4 next to my beretta 92f and even though the 92 is 6oz heavier, the px4 had less recoil using the same ammo and the 92f is well known for being a soft shooter. I was also putting up better groups with it and I consider myself a good shooter with the 92.

The 92 does seem to function smoother.

They all have plastic coated/over a metal plate - feed ramp/s - 9, 40, 45 (same, kinda, like the metal trigger coated over and shaped/formed in plastic

But as you can see, the feed ramp actually serves little as the bullets basically go straight in.. (thus the ongoing reliability-factor)
