im somewhat new to the ccw family and the little walther pk380 im carrying leaves me wondering weather or not im bringin enough, but im loving the looks and feel of the beretta px4 compact (not sub, yes there is a middle size) and its nearly the same size as my walther but in 40s&w, any thoughts on it? anyone have issues with it? and for gods sake please dont tell me to get a glock, i had an xd and and was never comfortable not being able to decock, and the px4 G type allows me to decock without the safety, and i will NOT carry something im not comfortable with...

I've held a few of the subcompact's and really really liked them. Never shot one, nor have I held the compact model.

That said, they all seem to be pretty thick for CC if you have a hard time hiding a bigger gun.

I'd still give them a shot though.

Edit: As far as Px4 performance...I was watching a video of a certain reviewer and a Beretta rep at shot show (nutnfancy...don't kill me, I was bored) and the rep stated the .45 tactical model was the only handgun to pass all of the tests in the SOCOM pistol trial. According to the rep, the trail was scraped due to internal bickering.
IDK how true it is, so take it with a grain of salt.

the grip is only 1.2" and overall its only 1.4", which is about the same as my walther pk380 and im a little guy and it dissapears nicely, whether it be in my kholster, my underarm tshirt or even in my ccw breakaways

It may have just been my perception of it. It just looked thick to me around the barrel and rail. Like I said though, I'd still get one if I had the money.

Why not look at Walther P99 Compact or the PPS? available in 9mm or.40

Va herder

honestly ill never own another walther, the one i have is only three months old, and it started rusting a month after i bought it, im not some sort of super gunsmith but i know how to take care of a gun and when i called walther they were of no help, which is why im looking at replacing it

Really I usually carry my P99 with me on the farm. Back a couple of weeks ago was out with the flock and dogs in a driving rain, that turned to sleet and freezing rain and then a cold wet heavy snow. Cant forget the thunder snow and sleet to. My P99 has never rusted in the summmer humidity and storms or when I am out in the remants of a tropical storm or hurricane checking on the flock. I have taken a number of spills when jostled by sheep
with my P99 in the holster and its been dunked in warm mud and also in partially frozen mud mixed with sheep poop and urine and dog pee. No rust.

Back when I was in the USN my govt PPS survived many many hours in cold dark ocean waters, rivers and bays will I was swimming for my uncle.

You do know Glock and Walther treat their guns with the same process right.

I would escalate my call up the chain if you really ahve a rust problem.

From what I understand, the PK380 isn't really a Walther, it's a product of Umarex, Walther's parent company (don't ask me for sources - can't remember where I read that).

I can tell you for sure that the P99 and PPS are a completely different class of firearm than the PK380 (and similar P22). I've handled all of them, and the P99 and PPS are world-class. The others are... lacking.

The P99 AS is my first choice for a 9mm. It's simply the best polymer-framed nine out there.

The PK380 is far from my first choice in .380.

I have the full size PX4 (type F) and the subcompact PX4 (type F). They are both excellent. Wish they had come out with the compact sooner- could have simply gotten it and saved some money!

i had no idea my pk380 wasnt made by walther, i take back my comment on never buying another walther although im still disappointed in the lack of service i got, and the rusting is not too bad yet but still frustrating ill have to check out the p99

New here, I picked up my PX4 .45 1-21-11. I think I'm going to replace the sites. It came with 3 grips, 2 magaznes, cleaning brushes, lock, case and a weid blue cup, anyone know what the cup is fore? I have shot a few different 45s and I was surprised the Beretta wasn't as volient. Lossened my grip and the groups got tighter. So far so good. Rick:)

I have been told that the little Beretta cup is for holding small parts during a detail strip, but I don't know if that is correct.

The little cup is for molding jello shots with the corporate logo in them.

Seriously, it is just a spacer to keep the sides of the blue plastic box from caving in towards the handgun during shipment.

You don't get the rotating barrell feature on the sub-compact model. That may be the incorrect term, but they came up with a new recoil absorbing system where the barrell rotates rather than pushes back into the spring assemblly. I was liking the inovation until I read that it isn't available in the sup compact version, and it is heavier and bulkier than many similar pistols of the same calibers. I like the look, but in the end it's another 9mm pistol and isn't small enough or light enough compared to an m&p or glock, or several others in the catagory. I would go with an EMP if you didn't mind the extra few bucks.

correct the rotating barrel is not available on the sub compact but im looking at the compact which does have a rotating barrel an its not really that beefy it only appears so because the slide is wider than the grip

riddle me this, why is everyone i talk to so concerned about the slide being .2 in thicker? I mean really? Whoop-d-doo its gonna be tucked in my pants the only part comin out will be the grip which is only 1.2 in, i really dont think .2 on the slide which is tucked in is gonna make this gun look like a desert eagle under a leotard on chimp

The rotating barrel has been around for a long time, decades in fact. Beretta is not the first to use it or the inventor. Some sell, others don't. However it seems they have been doing better with it than others have in the past.

Do you have to use Beretta Jello?:D I have a 9mm on the 92 frame, cheap to plunk shoot. Store with some Cor Bon + in the mag beside the bed. With the Cor Bon the little 9 really wakes up, it goes from bark to bite.

I have the full-size PX4 Storm F; never saw any point in the compact because the pistol stows nicely. The rotating barrel is nice and the PX4 shoot s like a dream.

I am surprised at your experience with the PK380. I have a First Edition that was either the first, or one of the first PK380s sold in the Houston area. It has been in my carry rotation since I got it and mine has no rust and is one of the best .380s I have ever owned, Umarex notwithstanding. With nine rounds capacity, it outguns the mouse pistols and is much easier to shoot. I keep mine loaded with 102-grain Remington Golden Sabers and have no worries about being armed too lightly.

dont get me wrong i love my pk380 an i dont plan on sellin it ill fix the rust an maybe blue that little spot and your right it shoots awesome we were pickin off soup cans from 25 yards last night out back, and the rust though quite disappointing is not nearly as big of an issue as the lack of service i got at walther, my wife loves shooting it so it wont be going anywhere regardless but i dont have much faith in walther/umarex after hours on the phone getting nowhere and as for my fear of underpower its gets real cold for quite some time up here in ohio and the big puffy coats and thick leather ones concern me that ill lose alot of kinetic energy and penetration with a 380, and if i have to use it id like to do more than just piss someone off, imo better off overprepared than under right?
