Does anyone on this esteemed panel know much about a Beretta S55?

The one in question is a 12ga O/U, 28", modified and improved chokes (fixed), 2.75" chamber, mid to late 1960s vintage.

Would this be a decent clay gun (skeet, trap, etc)? I'm looking to upgrade my father into a decent SG for clay use and this is the closest to my price range I can find without going Mossberg (et. al.). He doesn't shoot too much, but has a good time when he does. I'd like him to have a decent piece he can leave to my kids in the distant future.

Asking price is $700.

Opinions?

These are old but good guns. I have the upgraded S56E golden snipe. I believe the S55 is the silver snipe.

I use mine for trap but its really a field gun. It killed a fair number of pheasants just a couple of weeks ago.

You're probably better off buying a newer semi auto like the 11-87 for your dad, it has screw in chokes and lower recoil.

I really like my S56E. But they are getting harder to find parts for and none of the local gunsmiths around here know how to work on them.
