My wife recently switched to a wheelgun, so I got my hands back on the family parlor pistol, our Beretta 3032 Tomcat. For those not familiar with the gun, it's a tilt-barrel pocket gun chambered in .32ACP.

I've been toting the little Tomcat in the pocket for the last few days, and I am pleasantly reminded why I like the design enough to have bought three of 'em over the last six years. Our current Tomcat is one of the early ones with the glossy blue finish, and despite the reliability problems of the early Tomcats, this one has been running like a top for both myself and the previous owner. (Piece of board lore: this is the very same Tomcat carried by Tamara during her infamous bike wreck in 2000. Bidding starts at $500. :D )

It's not as flat or light as a Kel-Tec P32, but the main quality of the Tomcat is that it's far easier to shoot well than all the other pocket .32s on the market. It feels like a bigger gun in your hand, and it's blessed with actual sights...a questionable benefit on a pocket belly gun for some, but I like having the ability of placing my shots where I want them at more than bad breath distance. I've never owned or fired a mousegun that can hold a candle to the Tomcat in feel and practical shootability, and I've owned most of them.

It carries well in a pocket, not quite as easy as a P32, but easier than a J-frame. One thing about the Tomcat is that it doesn't feel like a mousegun, but rather like a miniaturized "big" pistol, and as a result, it engenders more confidence than most other mosueguns. It's as small as I can go and still feel that I have an actual gun in my hand, and not a plastic keychain that can shoot .32s.

The Tomcat is a pretty bad-ass little pocket gun. It's not the smallest or lightest .32 on the market, but it has a feel and quality to it that's lacking in other .32 mouseguns. You'll find a lot of people slamming the Tomcat, and it's true that some of the early T-cats had reliability and durability issues, but it's a very capable and well-made pocket gun that does the backup/deep concealment job as good as any other, and better than many.

were the tomcats less reliable than the 21's or something? I had 2 21's and never had a problem with either one--never a single failure, and surprisngly accurate.

My early Tcat has a new skinny slide, a new frame, a modern safety, and the old barrel. It's been back to the factory a couple of times. It is now reliable, accurate and compact. You can send eight Geco FMJs downrange real quick and real accurate. With a reload it's fifteen of those Gecos. I will coat the front sight with bright paint to enhance it's low light use.

My Inox Tomcat broke it's firing pin, that was the end of our relationship. I found it tended to turn upside down in the pocket and had the worst trigger pull of any gun I've owned. It was very accurate, a competition shooter grouped five rounds at 15 metres into roughly 1.65 inches with it. Reliability was acceptable, it needed cleaning after each box of ammo, but was always good for the first magazine. I've no interest in owning another, the good didn't outweigh the bad.

I recently bought a Beretta Bobcat in .22LR on a lark. Its turned out to be a relialbe little pocket gun for back up and just fun plinking. Sure its no target pistol, but for its size and purpose surprisingly accurate. I think the Tomcat is similar in design to the Bobcat, just "beefier".

Count me in as on the Tomcat bandwagon. The 2003 production Inox version I bought for my wife has been 100% reliable (if it's kept clean; it is a bit finicky otherwise) and shoots to POA ... Simply outstanding fit and finish, I totally agree with Marko's closing statement:
it's a very capable and well-made pocket gun that does the backup/deep concealment job as good as any other, and better than many.

Thanks I'll keep my PPK/S its thinner and 380. Fits in my pocket perfect in a Don Hume pocket holster. Mine has been 100% relieable and never bit me.
That said I would like to have one for a car gun. I do like the way it feels in you hand I just think to thick for pocket carry.

The only Gun I ever got rid of was a Beretta 3032 .32 Cal. Tomcat.

It looked really neat in the dealer's showcase for the reasons given in the above postings. I especially liked (and still like the idea of) the tilt-up barrel.

But it never could operate reliably (stovepipes, FFs and double ejects with every magazine load. This is an example of a semi-auto that was just to damn small to function reliably).

I could not feel safe enough to trust it in using it as a CCW, which was what I had purchased it for.

Also the grips fell apart twice with spider web cracks all over them - first ones replaced under warranty, second ones also immediately cracked - (really brittle plastic used there).

Fortunately, it was under a 1 year warranty with the dealer, and it managed to crack its own frame from normal shooting practice within that time.

Beretta replaced the gun with a brand new one, and the dealer allowed me to use the wholesale value of the new gun Beretta sent to trade (+ the $ difference) for a Ruger Single Six 50 year commemorative (neat revolver!).

I don't recommend the 3032 Tomcat Beretta to anyone.:(

As hit and miss as they used to be- and believe me, they were- they have apparently gotten a lot better. A few years ago they were so bad that my PD removed them from the approved OD/BUG list. Since then, however, I've heard that quality and reliability have gone up.

I never have had a single problem with any of the little berettas, and just got another 380 in today. That said, my favorite is the 950bs minx in 22 short with the long barrel. I HAD to buy it when I saw it.

I have an early Tomcat that I carried as a BUG on patrol. Never had a problem with it.

I agree, it has a feel unlike other .32 autos.

Beretta use to rate the life of this pistol at 1000 rounds. Has that gone up with the other improvements? (I hope so.)

Just curious. It is a nice looking gun.

I'm glad you got a nice one, I'd get one, but I've seen problems with the few I messed with and a local gunsmith whom I respected said they were constantly seeing problms.

My 950's in 25acp and 22short work pretty well though and I'd like to have one with the long barrel but I've never seen one for sale.

I have a Tomcat that I bought about 5 years ago. It has been 100% reliable with cheap ball ammo and also Winchester Silvertips. I use it for my CHL to carry when going to church. I use one of the pocket wallet type holsters. It looks like a wallet in my pocket. I think it is a great little carry gun for deep concealment.
