Ya, I don't argue the philosophical point. But in the meantime, it's still the law in NY. Just ask that football player.

Generally speaking, I try to live my life without committing felonies. I wouldn't carry a gun where it's a felony. One who must should move.

Bernie does not have a chance at NRA chairman. I thought I read Ted Nugent was in the hunt but i also read he declaired personal bankruptcy, so this is a bad spot in his record.

I would prefer someone like Newt Gingrich.

Lots of opinions but unless you walk in the man shoes or you have been in the same situation you dont have a right to judge the man.
In Florida a law was passed were you can stand you ground and use deadly force if you feel your life is in danger.
Unless you can get into his head and know what was going thru his mind when it happened your opinion means nothing.
Also in Florida the law does not allow a criminal to sew you for something that happen to him while in the commision of a felony.
Just because you live in NY does not mean you have to bend over and not defend yourself.
I do have relatives in NY and yes they do have guns and are ready to use them to defend live and limb against crime and injustice to thermselves and their family wheteher is legal or not per the sorry state laws.
Would you stand by and let somebody mug you just because the law says you cannot use a Knive , gun or bat to defend yourself , I dont think so.
Talk is cheap and a lot of the comments I read indicate they would need a crane to get their foot out of their mouth.
Four man against one is deadly force no matter how you slice it, you dont need stinking scredrivers when you have that advantage.

Bernie Goetz should have lived in the country, not in the middle of slimball NYC. NYC just can't tolerate the idea that a person would stand up for themselves and not depend on the "system" to protect them.

Massad Ayoob would no doubt say that Goetz violated a Cardinal Rule-"Flight Equals Guilt." I note he violated a Rule of Poor Richard (AKA Ben Franklin)-"Three may keep a secret if two of them are dead." As others have noted, the first rule in such situations is Omerta, if you feel they are closing in in you then you contact a good lawyer and let him do the talking. One thing I learned in the Army is that there's end to what you can get away with when you keep silent.

I once thought Charles Bronson's movie "Death Wish" was inspired by the Bernie Goetz incident.....later discovered the movie was made in 1974 and Goetz shot his assailants in 1984...makes you wonder if he was motivated by the movie?
