Plated 100 grain 380 round nose flat or hollow base. What is the advantage of one over the other?

Hmmm...Good question. Buy some of both and shoot em against each other. That is generally how I answer those questions. :)

In theory the hollowpoints should be more accurate. They have a greater bearing surface and should be better stabilized by the barrel. The difference in .380 would be minimal and therefore may be hard to detect any advantage.

In reality, some weapons prefer one over the other.

They are hollow based, but the theory still stands, as they have more bearing surface, as you pointed out.

I tried both

After a few thou of each, my Colt and LCP can't tell the difference between the two. The shorter bullet doesn't have to seat so deeply for the same finished OAL, which might be important to you since the 380 case wall is thicker in the middle and tends to make an unsightly bulge. But the longer HBRN are easier for me to pick up and and set on the case mouth under the seating die, any bulge makes no difference in feeding and chambering. They both shoot the same, but don't forget that I'm not shooting highly accurate target guns at 50 yard targets.

The choice is yours. Please report back to us if you find a difference on the target.

Off topic: I bought a ProMag for the Ruger LCP last month and put about a thousand rounds through it. Totally flawless. So I bought another and I'm doing the same. They are half the cost of Ruger magazines, equally reliable, and have the extended finger-grip base pad.

The Hollow Base could be a great aid in a lot of guns with over-size bores.
Of which there seems to be a lot of in .380 cal.

The problem is, Berry bullets are pretty hard compared to plain soft lead, and whether the HB would bump up to fit a loose bore is unknown to me.

If it did, it would surely improve both accuracy & velocity.

My 25-2 really likes the Berrys 185 Gr HBRN. It seems to me it is because it bumps up well, but I am theorizing. It does shoot very well though. It definitely seals the gap better than some as far as sparks/flame etc getting out. Strange as that may sound. Seems to bump up and seal the throats giving the fast powder more time to burn before it passes the gap and escape. Again, just theory.

Thanks to all of you. I had previously used the hollow base with good results and I will now stick with the hollow base.
