How are these guns as far as dependability? Looks like they'd make a nice carry piece for the money if they're reliable. Every gun shop I visit seems to have them, so somebody must want them. :p

Or am I better off with a cheaper to shoot 5-shot .38 snub?
 
I carry mine nearly every day, and it has been 100% reliable with thousands of rounds.

Try doing a search on here using "Bersa Thunder" as your criteria, and you'll be amazed at the postive response on multiple threads to this little pistol.
 
They are great little guns no doubt. For $200 they are pretty hard to beat in their size and weight for an auto. Most are well above average in terms of accuracy and reliabilty.

A search will turn up hundreds of threads with lots of info.
 
Personal preference = snub

Why?

Totally reliable
Bigger image if I have to point it at a BG
Easy to carry
Speedloaders are light and compact.

SW642 :)
 
I miss mine, I should have never sold it...

If you can find the firestorm model, it has the nice rubber grips, better sights and has that tang cut off of the trigger guard so it'll fit in PPK holsters.

Mine was 100% reliable, but I wasn't very accurate with it. It tended to shoot 6-8" low with largish groups, and I didn't want to file down the front sight. :p Maybe me, maybe a lemon, some people get good accuracy from them.

They're pretty large for a .380, so don't expect it to be a pocket gun. Personally, I'd rather have a .38 snubbie or a 9mm for CCW.
 
I have no complaints concerning this little autoloader. It is a great autopistol. Perhaps it is a bit on the large side for a .380, but I wouldn't trade it away for much of anything! IT WORKS! :cool: (That's more than I can say for S&W's Walther PPK.) :( :rolleyes:

I've had mine for just under three years and 1700 rounds. I carry it and feel very confident with its accuracy and dependability.

Just last weekend I was doing a comparison with the Bersa and a 642. I can no where near shoot the snub as well as the .380. Yeah yeah I know all the whining about .380's but when from sixteen feet I can empty a mag into a six inch circle as fast as I can pull the trigger-THAT makes me feel very confident.

The only thing you have to consider is the recoil spring needs replacing at 1,000 rounds. You can tell because the slide won't go fully forward. Not a big deal, springs only cost $4.00.

Go to Horge's website and do some reading, you'll be impressed I'm sure.

I'm finding there are alot of nice guns out there when you take "big name" blinders.

This sounds like it'll be more fun to shoot than my S&W Sigma .380 was! :fire: Not that that is saying much...

Along these lines (large-ish .380s) is the CZ-83 worth a look as well?
 
+1 on Bersa Thunder .380

I carry my Glock 36 now but I still love my Bersa, and it has been 100% reliable.

Great Weapon, no failures ever (many rds thru mine), Great value, a tad heavier than most CC but no recoil -- it is a Stable Workhorse!
 
I'd say they are fairly reliable. I don't own one yet, but will soon or maybe two. My range is on their 2nd one for rent. The guy said they had one in there that went thru 20,000 rounds before they retired it and he bought it.
 
When I got my .380, I loved the way it fit my hand, and its accuracy. Sadly, it was never dependable enough to trust my life with. It went back for service two times, then I finally got rid of it. A lot of folks have reliable Thunders, and I'm a little envious of them. I have a S&W 637 now, and it's right for me.

CZ-83 vs Bersa

Why is the Bersa seemingly so much more popular than the CZ-83 which looks very nice also. Both are a bit large for a .380.

Is it mainly the extra $100 or so for the CZ?

Has anybody had a chance to compare the two? :cool:
 
I have a Bersa and love it. It does shoot a little low, anyone else have this problem? Will filing the front site down make a difference? Fun little gun to shoot, never had a problem with FTF or FTE.

I guess, if you call over 1000 rounds with no failures of any kind "fairly" reliable.

Ooooookay......

And I DO own one, and carry it regularly.
 
I have a CZ-83 with satin nickle finish. I've shot several hundred rounds thru a Bersa and almost bought one. Then I shot a CZ-83 and there was no comparison. Fit and finish are as good as anything SIG or HK are producing. Accuracy is excellent. Reliability has been 100%. CZ has better sights and a better trigger than Bersa. My -83 has become my "every trip to the range " gun. YMMV.

Thanks Larry. Sounds like the CZ-83 is a beauty. Now I just need to find a store with one in stock!
