Yup, I understand. There is something about having one.

That being said, I'd hold all three to make a decision. The Sig feels great in my hand. I've never held the Bersa. The PPK doesn't feel as nice, but it is a PPK. Yes, I based my purchase solely on some childhood fantasy. Sue me!

That being said, the PPK is great WHEN IT WORKS. Mine jams a lot, and is out of commision at this time, pending a trip to Dr. Gunsmith. You CAN NOT limp wrist these, or they WILL NOT shoot.

If I had to make the decision again, I may actually pick the Sig. It has a much better reliabilty it seems (I have no experience, nor have I shot one, just what I have read here).

Then again I may buy the PPK again, it is, after all, a PPK!!!

I have a PPK/s on my hip at present time and a Bersa on the night stand. Since you claim to be poor get the Bersa . When you can affored it get your PPK. But what you really want is a Colt Mustang ! :D
 
I voted Walther.

yes - it's more expensive.
yes- it's worth it.
yes - if you find you don't like a PPK, you can sell it for exactly what you have in it (provided you shop around for a good used one to buy in the first place).
yes - if you LIKE the PPK, the Bersa is so close to it it's a toss up.

I can't think of any other gun in that catagory that you can say that about.

I bought a used but unfired PPK for $395, fired maybe 100 rounds through it and sold it a couple of months later for $400. I liked just about everything about it except the way it chewed the back of my hand.

Sig - Bersa - CZ and even the (Browning/Beretta <-- which is now making me reconsider the .380), are all fine in their own right, excepting for the lack of name recognition - outside of the mainstream firearms community the Walther has.

Who knows. maybe you'll even like the damn thing and never want to part with it. You say that you're a poor student right? You have maybe 50 or more years ahead of you to enjoy the Walther. The Walther is ~ $150/$200 or so more than the Bersa. Broken down over a lifetime that's a pittance. I guar-on-tee you that you'll spend far more than that on junk food or something equally trivial over the entire course of your life. Heck, I dropped $25 on gasoline yesterday on a "pleasure trip" that was 100% unnecessary. Figuring $200 more / 50 years of amorization for the Walther that would equate to 6 years of "difference".
 
an astute eye will notice they've used other guns in the Bond movies that are slightly larger than the PPK for visual effect (or reliability?). Bond has also used many other guns in the books (Fleming and other authors). but if you really can't be broken of a fantasy, the price of a PPK is a bargain for part of a fantasy.
 
I own a Bersa and really enjoy shooting it. I used to own a Walther and prefer the Bersa. I like the Sig, but would recommend going with the less expensive gun because the odds are that you will move on to other guns, including at least one .9mm, and ultimately the .380 will spend a lot of time in your safe simply because .380 ammo is generally a lot more expensive than 9mm ammo. Better to have a $200 safe queen than a $400 safe queen.

I wouldn't say its a lot more expensive, the cheapest .380 I've found is about $1.25-1.50 a box more expensive. This 2-3 cents a shot adds up but not as fast as the extra 5-8 cents a shot for .40 S&W or .45ACP vs. 9mm

I've been buying a lot of .380 lately to feed my wife's Beretta 86, fortunately cheap Wolf works well in it. I'm trying to get her into 9mm but its taking her a while to get over the extra muzzle blast and not flinch.

If you think you might eventually give up on the gun, the SIG will have the best re-sale value followed by the PPK.

I get Winchester White Box 9mm for about $11/100 at Wally World. I get WWW .380 for $16/100 at the same stores. That adds up after a few thousand rounds.
 
Both of my carry guns are SIGs, but the P232 doesn't quite do it for me. After playing with the SIG and the Walther I got my wife a Bersa Model 85 (older hi-cap version of the Thunder, hope they put something similar out again) for a graduation present and she's loved it (and I've loved to borrow it ;) ). Feels great in the hand, nice trigger, shoots beautifully. I've had some mysterious trouble with it, though, and getting the thing fixed in the New England area has given me no end to hassles (do a search on ups theft for that saga). Right now I'm inclined to second the gentleman who mentioned the Browning BDA, which I've shot as the Beretta 84/85 (minus the gorgeous nickel finish). The beat-up old Beretta 84s I've rented have all shot amazingly well-- possibly the best groups of my life, and definitely my best groups from before I picked up my SIG P239 in .357 SIG.
 
Here's another vote for the CZ83. I love mine. You have the SA/DA option, it's got a good grip, recoil isn't bad, etc.
 
Another vote for the CZ83, by far the most accurate and durable of the 380s. It looks bigger than it carries.
 
None of the above - my choice is a NAA Guardian .380. The PPK bites my hand, and the Bersa and Sig are too large for the caliber. The NAA rides in my back pocket in a back-pocket holster and looks and feels like a wallet.
 
He's never said that it's for CCW so the 232's larger size might not be a downside - not that I have any problems at all concealing mine , I usually carry a larger pistol anyhow .


My local gunshop has a German made .32 PPK on consignment for $399 , this thread has made me consider a shopping trip this Saturday :D
 
I am actually thinking about trading my PPK/S because it beats my hand up when I shot it... Sig P232 or Colt Mustang would be the first replacement choices.
 
dad has a SIG P230 and it shoots real well.....so I voted for it...BUT my friend that is a FFL Holder has sold many Bersas and I have shot two of them and I can attest to the fact that they are really nice and reliable...

I have only shot a Walther PPK(circa 1970's model) and it jammed on just about every round of JHP that was fed thru it,,,,
 
So this is the CZ in .380/9x17 that y'all suggest? :uhoh:

A bit... homely, isn't it? The Sig is at least visually attractive, as though it's what the PPK should've been. If I get that CZ it'll be the backup to my IMI SP-21...

The Sig 232 sure is a cute gun. I bet it's a little hard on the hand however, and doesn't hold many rounds.

The CZ83, however, is an exceptionally good looking gun, holds 13+1, is accurate, and is exceptionally functional as well. IMO, it's a far superior firearm.
 
The Sig P232 is one smooth shooting .380. The recoil is not as sharp as the walther PPK I shot, and that's the only gun that the slide does bite my hand. I was completely unimpressed with the PPK.

The Sig's action also feels smoother.

I have no experiene with the Bersa, but I've heard really good reports on it.
 
I'm not big on .380 as long as I can have a 9mm. But my personal preference would be for the BDA
