Last October that I bought a Bersa Thunder 380 Concealed Carry model (henceforth referred to as the T380CC). The gun has been flawless for roughly 500 rounds of various types of .380 Auto ammo.

However, today at the range the trigger suddenly disconnected and stayed that way

Disassembly revealed that the "Disconnecter Spring" (part #29) had snapped off just past the spring loop.

Now doesn't it figure that it's about the only part "staked" into the frame of the gun (so it's going to be a pain to remove).

I tried several links to Eagle Imports (they were dead) and then went to Bersa's homepage in Argentina. Holy COW, Bersa's home page is USELESS and feels like it was assembled by a three year old!

At this point I was getting a pretty bad sinking feeling about getting my gun fixed so I hopped over to "Bersa Talk" and asked for help. In the meanwhile I finally found a -good- link for Eagle Imports (http://www.bersafirearmsusa.com/ in case anyone else needs it in the future) where I discovered that you can order pretty much every part for the gun.

I ordered a replacement part (and a spare) as well as a few other springs and such just to be on the safe side.

The only reply I got from BersaTalk was a pretty snarky comment about how Bersa is not good with computers and that I should have picked up a phone and called someone (I guess the psychic hotline was supposed to give me a phone number out of thin air prior to me finding a useful link, or maybe I was suppose to just call Argentina?).

Anyway I've ordered the parts, I'll post back on how long the delivery took and how the repairs go in case anyone else has similar troubles with their T380CC.

Sorry to hear you got such a bad reception at Bersatalk.
Bersa has a lifetime warranty, if you talk to Royce (Colorado Gun Works) he will fix the problem under warranty.

Thanks but it just doesn't make any sense to spend the S&H plus the other hassles for a $1.50 part that I can replace. I mostly posted this thread so that others will know that parts are available should they have a similar issue.

Ok here is his first of his 3 post on Bersa Talk

Bloody HELL, Broken spring on T380CC

I have a pretty new Thunder 380 Concealed Carry model and the "disconnector" spring snapped (part #29).

I'm completely capable of removing the old one and "staking" a new one in place but Eagle Imports is MIA and my emails to Bersa bounce back as undeliverable. Is there some way to get one (or two) of the disconnector springs from someone here?

Post #2 whoops, found a -working- link to Eagle Imports and I think I can order the part from them.
Thanks anyway.

My post, that upset him

That what a thing called a PHONE is for to call and talk to people and even order a part. if needed. Eagle isn't good with computer Phone works better.

HE HAD EAGLE SITE (2ND POST )AND THEIR PHONE NUMBER IS POSTED EAGLE HASN'T DONE WELL WITH E MAILS. IN PAST

HIS 3RD POST
Yeah, phone...requiring a phone NUMBER which I didn't have until I could find a working link to the company (unless I wanted to phone Argentina since that's the only number on my manual). Thanks for the snarky reply, I think I'll just find other sources of info in the future if that's how it goes here.

So theirs what he is whining about for all the world to see:rolleyes: . REMEMBER HE HAD FOUND EAGLE BY TIME I POSTED . I don't see the big deal . Have 2960 members at this writing 2959 appear happy 1 unhappy Guess can't please everyone.:D

Gander Mountian as I remember is no longer a approved warrenty center for Bersa.

By the time I got to 1000 rounds, the slide lock indent in the slide had worn to the point where it didn't always catch. The seer in mine broke at around 1200 rounds and completely locked up the slide. I had to send it to the factory for repair. They machined the slide while they had it. I also had a grip panel break about a year in and the finish had completely worn through on the frame at the take-down lever and around the linkage.

At that point, I just sold the thing and bought a Kahr.

Yeah, I can see why it upset him.

Interesting. Yup, that's certainly snarky. I'd be a little bent too if a post I had out there requesting assistance came had someone comeback with a smartass remark. The least you could have done is posted the number.

Thanks for the proof "MichaelT" I was going to post the entire exchange myself but the mods at BersaTalk had already deleted the thread so there was no point in trying to link to it.

I've been here (THR) for quite some time and during that time I have tried to develop a reputation for giving help when needed and if I can and I can tell you that I'd never EVER give some new to this site a reply that, essentially, said "hey newbie, why don't you pick up a phone for your answers and stop bugging us".

I guess you don't see it that way.

Bersa has been known for budget priced guns that work fairly well.....but with poor customer service and parts replacement issues you have to wonder how good a deal it is.... with that in mind, you only pay for quality once.....

I'm a member at BersaTalk, but I was snarky before I joined. :neener:

Seriously, I have a .380 and a 45, love them both. No issues, just escalating round counts, and good accuracy. I think I DID buy quality, just at a lower price than some. Ever seen any advertising for Bersa? Me neither. They seem to be intent on keeping their prices down. Seems to be working.

I've seen some snarky replies to questions on here before too. Guess it isn't just a bersa thing. lol

UPDATE-Parts arrived

Well the parts I ordered arrived (a replacement spring plus a few other springs and bits and another mag just to make the order worth the shipping). The new "disconnector spring" is noticably thicker than the one I removed from the gun. I snapped the new spring in place, popped it with my staking tool and it's good to go. I did take my moto-tool and use the felt tip and some rouge to polish up the channel that the spring slides in as well since I had it apart.

By the way, if you are nervous about a second failure it is pretty easy to disable the mag disconnect altogether

Yeah, that works good for some people:

Prosecutor: "You say you intentionally disabled the Magazine disconnector safety feature of your gun involved in the subject negligent discharge that injured this innocent bystander?"

How's that going to work out?:what:

That reminds me of the trigger bar springs that broke in two of my SIGs. Conceivably, I could have turned the gun upside down to fire it, as the trigger bar would fall back into place and become reengaged. I elected to not try it, however.

just my .02, I appreciate the thread, some months back I was at a range and an off-duty cop was trying out his new off-duty carry the Bersa Thunder .380 and was good enough to ask if I wanted to run a mag through it to get my impression which was favorable. I've recommended this piece to several folk around here and if any problem pops up likely will wind up doing repairs. it shot fine and had a decent da & sa trigger new as it was.

Bersas are inexpensive but that should not be confused with cheap. The reason for their lower cost is not lack of quality so much as it is a lack of labor unions in Argentina. That, combined with their extremely inflated currency make the Bersa inexpensive relative to American and European made models. Problems with Bersas seem to be the expception rather than the rule, which is why the gun has developed a nearl cult-like following.

Both of my Bersa Thunder .380's are totall reliable after 10 years. They are both back ups, and they perform that task well.

I've had my Bersa .380 Thunder Del. for about a month. Got a ftf with almost every clip. Sometimes more. Finally found a new clip for it yesterday. The spring in the original clip was very weak. I was told by the dealer to make sure to unload the clip when not carrying and it's best not to fully load it. He also told me never to use it 24/7. I was keeping it on the bedside table at night. I like the gun, and know several who own Bersa .380's (not the deluxe mod) and they have no problems. Will find out tomorrow if the new clip solves this.
