Hmmm.... Springfield ......Sig? ... Have not owned either but that would be hard choice....

The 1911 Is the best .45 platform! ..... But thats an opinion!

As will be All manufacturers listed on this thread! But merely an opinion again!

Best is in the eye of the beholder! And directly related to the amount one has to spend on the 1911!

There are $400 dollar 1911's ..... If you only have $400?? then...there is a best in that price range...but still opinion!

There are $1000 dollar 1911's ..... If you only have $1000?? then...there is a best in that price range...but still opinion!

There are $2000 dollar 1911's ..... If you only have $2000?? then...there is a best in that price range...but still opinion!

This question is a good one! But it has many answers!

I have $1000 Colt .... $600 Taurus .....Both are BEST! to me! :D, Had Llama Once....20 years ago..:barf: but in fairness....it prob just needed a 1911 Guru a hold of it! Then all I knew was to load and shoot it....ah! (try to shoot ) :banghead:

But there is a wealth of 1911 knowledge here, so good luck!

I have both plus some others. Depending on what you are looking for one might have a model the other does not. Sig has more features (FS checkering) for the $$, I have never used Sig's CS but I doubt it's better than SA's. Both of my SA's have been tweaked, the SIG left as is for HD. It might get a masage at a later date.....

Flip a coin.......

Springfield, because it`s easy to change it into a Milspec-Series 70 pistol.

SIG and S&W are very similar, with their external extractors. SIG slide profile is flatter / taller than a standard 1911, and will not fit many holsters made for the 1911. That being said I like my Sringfield Armory Longslide Target, but I really love my SIG RCS. The SA is a 6" and the SIG is a 4.2" on a compact frame, it is my EDC pistol, It has Novak tritium night sights and is the perfect size for holster carry. If I could only keep one of my 1911s it would be a toss up between the SIG RCS and my STI Trojan 9mm. I get more use out of the workhorse RCS but the STI is such a good shooter, neither have given me any trouble, both eat any ammunition HP, Semiwadcutter and Ball. I rarely shoot the Longslide any more, in fact it has been changed to a .22 conversion slide assembly on it's frame, excellent Steel Challenge pistol. I have nothing bad to say about either SIG or SA, only if I wanted the best shooting 1911 under $1K I would get an STI, for under $2K I would consider STI, S&W Performance Center, or If I could find a Les Baer Premier II. From my experience for under $2000 STI would out perform most other 1911s in the same size and price.

At risk of souding like a broken record.

Now is a good time to also look at Les Baer and Dan Wesson 1911's. More expensive, but you're getting better, more expensive parts, and fitting in those as well.
