I have a Ruger MkII 6 and7/8" barrel that's been very reliable and very accurate with both standard velocity and CCI Mini mags. I've never taken it apart after 5,000 plus rounds but carefully clean the slide and chamber area with Q-tips and a bore snake. It is a great gun for plinking as well as practice.

No one has mentioned the S&W Model 41, the Cadillac of American target pistols. I've never shot one but folks who have swear by them. They cost more but will probably retain their value much better than the newfangled plastic and pot metal "ray guns". Besides, you will never grow tired of an accurate pistol.

Another choice is a High Standard .22 target pistol in good condition. I shot .22 bullseye competition with the High Standard when I was in college many moons ago. They were far more accurate than I was.

Finally, a good .22 revolver such as a S & W K-frame 6 shot .22 should be very accurate and will provide useful practice in the art of revolver shooting.

I've got two buckmarks and they are nice little guns, especially for the money. However, my neighbor as a High Standard which has an awesome trigger. You can pick up one of those in nice condition for the 400 bucks if you want a really nice target pistol. (I'm keeping the buckmarks because they aren't holding my back at my skill level. ;))
