Irrespective of cost, which is the best 22 cal handgun for target shooting and plinking?

S&W Model 41
Sig Trailside
Browning Buckmark
Ruger MK II
Beretta Neos
Other? (please post)

Without regard to cost, I'd want a nice 1911 with a tuned trigger and a Marvel conversion. I'd rather stick with that than any dedicated 22 I've ever shot.

For a dedicated 22, I'd take a 41 all else considered and the SIG Trailside is very nice at about half the cost of a brand new 41 but I've seen one 41 for $499 and several for around $550-$600.

Guess it just depends on how little cost figures into the equation.

"Sig Trailside
Browning Buckmark
Ruger MK II
Beretta Neos"

These are NOT target pistols. These are inexpensive plinkers.

Check out Hammerlis, Walther GSP, IZH-35, Pardini, Benelli MP90S, those are TARGET pistols. Not just toys for the crowd.

I agree with gvass. Also throw in the High Standards, the Colt Woodsman Match Targets, and the Belgium Browning Medalists.

My Ruger MKII Target shoots better than I do so I'll have to stick with it. 10 years and countless thousands of rounds and never any complaints from it or me.

I voted "OTHER"...
Smith & Wesson Model 617.

I went with browning buckmark, as its the only plinker I own, but I ahrdly consider it a target pistol(at least the way I shoot it isnt :) )

Not exactly a production gun, but the most accurate .22 rimfire pistol that I've seen (so far) is a 1911 with a Marvel Precision Unit 2 Conversion.

That makes me really happy to hear. I jus' received my Marvel Unit 2 in the mail today and I jus' made my Colt Government as my official plinker 1911.

I cant wait to take the Colt out to give that Marvel conversion an exerceise! But, from all the good reports of the marvel conversion, my hopes are pretty high :D

As of now, the only .22 that I had a LOT of fun shooting would be the Sig trailslide. All the others didn't compare. The Ruger MKII wasn't even as fun to shoot as the Sig. :)

Freedom Arms

makes some of the most accurate tackdrivers around, if you're into s/a revolvers. Expensive too.

The Browning Buckmark. Why? Because it's on my list of guns to buy.:D And because I've found .22 pistols to be most useful of any I've owned or used. My other choice would be a Ruger Single Six with a spare .22 Mag cylinder.

Best .22 target pistol/revolver

Two excellent target 22's are the Hammerli 208S and the Pardini SP. They're both semi-automatic and depending on the definition used could be considered for plinking. I know I've gone out and shot at soda cans with mine. They both typically sell for over $1k and the accuracy with them is repeatable. I saw someone recently described the Hammerli as a $2000 trigger with a gun attached. I didn't include the various free pistols as "plinkers", they're just too specialized for me to shoot for fun.
A gun not mentioned that's in the price range of the others on the poll list is the Baikal IZH-35M. It can shoot as well as the Hammerli/Pardini but in my humble opinion the trigger isn't nearly as nice.

I'd have to vote for OTHER, and give a huge thumbs up to the High Standard Supermatic Trophy... it is a heavy fullsize target pistol that will drive tacks in the accuracy department... even 100 yard shooting is amazing with the big gun. I bought mine used, and it was built like 3 decades ago or more, I have no experience with the later made High Standards.

I own a Ruger MkII 5.5" target bullbarrel pistol and a 5.5" Single Six as well, and I don't ever shoot either, my High Standards are much more fun and accurate!

The only other target grade .22 pistol I have some experience with is that Baikal IZH25 or 35 or whatever that little Russian target pistol is called. The one I shot had some trigger work done to it at home by a bullseye shooter, and it was AMAZING for only $550 or whatever they cost these days.

My next .22 pistol will be a Baikal with some trigger tweaks!!

i prefer the ruger because of the design internally and theres no plastic junk in it.my slabside competition shoots accurate nuff for me though I also favor the model 41 for its pleasing looks and balance.

You ask for the best target .22 without regard to cost? None of your choices even come close to qualifying. Check international competition results and you will find Hammerli, Sako, Pardini, Walther GSP, Morini, and TOZ are listed.

Depending on the budget, a used S&W K-22 Masterpiece or a (gasp) Colt Diamondback would be an exquiste pleasure to shoot.

On the current set of choices, I vote for the M41.

Ruger MK II w/5 1/2" heavy bbl. I have both a Ruger Mk 1 and a Buckmark. The only bad thing I can say about the latter is that if you remove the top of the slide (sight base & sight included), you'd better check your zero when you reassemble it.
