I loaded the pistol hit the slide release and the first round went into battery but the second round bound the gun up. I call this my fault.

I respectfully disagree, sir. Your situation is an example of a magazine failure by definition. Not even a fresh spring will fix what is wrong with this magazine. "Tweaking" the lips may help for a while, but it will not stick. Get a new magazine, or grab another one out of your magazine stash.

Historically I have found that once the lips go on any magazine, by any make, or model, rifle or pistol, dump the mag, it will never be truly reliable again. Of course in the field without resources or spare mags, bend the lips and get through and accomplish the mission, but don't take that magazine back out into the bush again. Magazines are disposable, regardless of the price you may pay for them.

AS to the 10 round magazines, they are a different bear entirely:

Wilson 10 rounders I have tried them and when ever I have used them the "Tab" will soon sheer on me. Yes I jam a magazine very hard, I have for 45 years, and God willing, will for the next 45 years too.

If your magazines are not properly set up for the gun you are shooting, you can kiss your extended Ejector, if any, good bye and the gun will definitely "BIND" up

(Note Wilson Customer Service is great. They will fix/replace any magazine problem without any BS at all. Even if it is nothing but a shooter that doesn't know when to replace their magazine springs)

Tripp 10 rounders, the mag stop on the magazine is totally ineffective for me. I just drive right past it. It doesn't work just peels back. See above comments about how hard I seat a magazine. I do not use Tripp 10 rounder for any thing except my "Barney" mag, when competing.
(Tripp Customer service will rival Wilson's, excellent.)

McCormick 10 round Power mags, have worked best for me amongst the 10 rounders. the magazine stop created by the large and very useful Basepad simply works great. Be advised that sometimes you must hog out your Magazine well so that magazine will seat properly. Or to cut on the plastic base though. (I have never used CMC Customer service. If they work they work great if they work with your gun.)

Additional NOTE: Do not use CMC magazines in alloy frame guns. Sometimes when the follower rides forward, it can gouge the metal of the ramp of a non "ramped barrel" 1911. This is not an issue in steel framed guns.

I will not get into the Mec-Gars etc.... at this time.

Personally I no longer use 45acp 10 rounders even for competition, Limited 10. I just run 8 rounders, TRIPP, or run another gun, l am lucky and have many to choose from.

Just my experience with each. Life is short enough to spend much time fighting with magazines.

Good luck.

Fred

The new Power mags have been redesigned to be safe with alloy frame 1911s.
