Best 7.62X39 Bullet

I have a 7.62X39 AR with a 16” Model 1 barrel. I've tried some bulk .310 Golden West Brass FMJs, Golden West Brass FMJs in .308 and the .310 123 Hornady V-max. The V-max shows promise but I have some more testing to do. The FMJs, not much to brag about. The .308s were horrible. All were loaded with AA 1680. But I want to know, what has been the most accurate bullet you've tried?

Try this: Hornady 123 gr SN .310

I get excellent accuracy with the Sierra .3105 125gr SP.

I load for my x39 AR and AK. Most accurate is V-MAX(.310) over 24.5 - 25g of AA1680. Hit steel at 250yds. Tried 147g x54 pulls over 22.5g not bad. .308 sized Winchesters but they did not have velocity and had cycling probs for some reason. I started to save money - reloading x39 is not cheap and shoot yugo milsurp. It might be corrosive but its the best stuff you can get out of the combloc

There is a new choice - Berrys is now making a plated bullet .311 125grain that works quite well in my 7.62x39mm CZ 527M

Speer 130gr JHP .308.

But my Ruger is a .308 bore, so it may not work as well in your rifle.

20 rounds at 100 yards.

I also picked up some of the new berry's plated 125 gr. and they really surprised me accuracy wise. They work great in my semi-auto too.

Thanks for the info. I'm not sure those Berry's bullets will cycle the gun at the velocities they recommend. I don't want to tear up the brass as they ain't cheap. Got some friends that are spending big bucks building 300 Blackout ARs. Trying to show the my gun can shoot just as good as theirs on the “cheap” side. With a lot less hassle to reload.

Are the AR barrels generally .308 or .310?

My 7.62x39 AR carbine, with a 16" freefloated Model1Sales barrel and handloads of Rem brass, CCI primers, H4198 powder, and Sierra 125gr bullets, would print just at MOA for five-shot groups with boring regularity.

Are the AR barrels generally .308 or .310?

Generally, .3105.
