Best affordable calipers

I used the Harbor Freight digital caliper for awhile, but it ate batteries a bit too fast for my liking. I bought their 6" dial caliper, and have used it ever since. Decent stuff for the money.

If you want higher quality (?) and have deeper pockets, though, Mitutoyo are widely considered one of the best.

I'd bet a weeks salary that the H/F, Midway, Lyman, etc., etc., and most every other Chinese made caliber is made by the same company in china and branded by whomever it gets sold to. But then I'm retired and have no weeks salary.

LOL I was thinking as I read the first line ,"how much do you make?"

I just checked Graf and Sons and there is a nice selection of moderatly priced stuff there.
I used both kinds in my work thru the years and I'm willing to bet that your dad would just love the digital type. Switch from English to Metric easily but battery life can be annoying.
Have fun!

Back in the '70s, when I started reloading, I popped for a Craftsman vernier caliper at the local Sears store. I've not yet found a reason to replace it. I've no idea what they cost now.

Harbor freight They will do as good as a 50.00+ will do. They also always have 20% coupon all the time.
