Best "Affordable" (under $300) Distance scope (max 1000 yards) with a min of 18 power

Give me your best scope for distance shooting with a .300 Win mag (heavy recoil) for under $300. Prefer a min power of x18, but if you have arguments for anything lighter - include them and the scope and power.

Looking for a good scope for a rifle that I am putting together.

I'd recommend the Super Sniper line of scopes if you aren't opposed to a fixed power scope. I've got the 10x on my rifle, but they also have a 16x and 20x.

Etched glass reticle and designed to handle .50BMG recoil for $299.

Nikon Buckmasters 4.5-14x40 can be had for $299.95 if you want a variable. The argument for it is that 14 vs. 18 isn't much of a difference and the 18X isn't in your price spec.

+1 for the 20x Super Sniper. It'll stand up to the recoil and is supposed to be good glass for the money.

I've got a Nikon Buckmaster in 6-18 with fine crosshairs. Working well @ 600. Not much power for 1000. Looks to me like you're going to be under-scoped and over-calibered @ 1000.

I would vote for a Weaver T24 but I think Weaver/Meade has slipped as of late.

Honestly, you can't really find a good, reliable scope for that purpose for $300. Oh sure, you can shoot with a cheap scope, but you would never be able to bet your life on it. Plinking is another story.

I'm no 1000 yard shooter but I've had good luck & performance with the Bushnell 4200 Elite Series. It's no S&B...but, uh, I'm not a Scout Sniper (just a coyote killer).

I've got a 4200 on another LD rifle, and it's great glass, especially for the money. Just not much elevation adjustment.
