best ammo for my 9

No. Only you can determine that by buying various brands and loads and trying them out. Your particular gun might be very accurate with some loads, and less so with others. Every gun is different.

Any of the factory ammo from the major manufacturers should function fine in your Taurus. All my nines eat Winchester USA brand "white-box" from WalMart (the 100 rd value packs).

PS- That's cheap FMJ, for "target" shooting (blasting). For self defense, I like Gold Dot hollow-points, loaded by Speer (pricer than the plinking ammo).
 
all of my pistols.. my p99 (.40sw) my 1911GI my sig p226 and even the revolver.. (not that it matters) they feed the WWB excellent.. once in a while the 1911 will hiccup but no biggie to me.. the p99, and p226 both run flawless.. never had a problem with them.
 
Best ammo is 100 rounds each and take notes.

Gradually go thru everything you can get your hands on and take note of hiccups. Try to analyze "why" if you can. You could address it or just avoid the ammo. Usually magazines and feedramp smoothness/cleanliness are the biggest problems. Note which your gun prefers. I prefer a gun that eats everything, reliability is king in my book, nothing else matters. I only have one right now, so it's IT. Oops, just got my wife a PT111 for xmas, and she loves it....whew. :p :p :p still unfired though.

Some guns swallow everything, my Taurus PT145 has so far. 3 factory offerings and 3 hand load mixes, no hiccups in 600 rounds thus far. I've got handloaded speer gold dots, flying ashtrays I think they're referred to as...:D

But, the PT145 is a shortie barrel, so I need to move to a 185 grainer for SD to keep the speed up. Have a batch of them now, but the 230s are more prevalent at my local retailers. Learned all that stuff reading this board, good resource. Can't find their new SB 230's for reload yet, but they'll be out soon, better be if they want my coin to keep coming back.

Like the others have said your going to have to try and see what ammo is best for your gun. From my experience the Taurus line will function with just about everything, but accuracy will differ between each brand. I usually get the Winchester white box from Wallmart or PMC.

For self defense, choose a good hollowpoint from any major manufacturer and you wont go wrong. I prefer the 147 grn rounds for better penetration, but any weight will do. My favorites are the Winchester Ranger, Speer Gold Dot, and the Remington Goldensaber. Federal has a new HP out called the HST that Im going to look at when I get home.

I guess you bought the PT92 after you asked about it here? Check at Academy Sports if you have a store in your area. My wife and I think CCI Blazer is a bit cleaner ammo than Winchester White Box. Academy Sports will beat Wal Mart prices on just about all ammo. Make sure it is 9mm Luger which is much more common than 9mm Parabellum (these aren't brand names but different sizes of 9mm ammo), the Taurus takes Luger.
 
I have a couple of 9s and feed them a regular diet of the Winchester White Box 100 round packs from Walmart too.

They are both loaded with 147grain Gold Dots from Speer, for a self defense round.

I believe that you may be mistaken. If I remember correctly 9mm Parabellum, 9mm Luger, and 9x19 are all the same round. There are of course other rounds such as the 9mm largo or 9x18 which are completely different.

9mm Luger---first gun chambered for it was a Luger and the designer might have been named Luger.

9mm Parabellum---The name given the round by the designer. Parabellum is latin for "for war" (I think, I know spanish not latin) to show that it met the requirements of the Hague Convention.

9x19---A metric name given to the round to tell the width and length of the round.

9mm NATO---is also the same size, but loaded to higher pressure (+P). The 92 is safe to use with it, but I'd keep it to a once in a while thing because it can decrease the life span of the gun.

My Taurus PT 92 AR clearly says "cal 9mm PARA." on the slide. It will shoot the cheap Winchester fine, but is a little low shooting.

Could someone confirm or correct this please?

My self defense load for a 9mm pistol is Speer Gold Dot 124 grain +P. You may find an equally good cartridge in some of the Winchester loads.
 
For practice I like WWB, Sellier & Bellot, and Fiocchi. For personal defense I am partial to the 124gr+p Gold Dot as loaded by Black Hills.

Confirm. Mr Mole is indeed correct.

There are very few cartridges that you will confuse with the 9mm Luger/Parabellum, especially since that is the most common 9mm cartridge in the U.S.

Don't confuse it with .380 ACP (9x17mm) or 9mm Makarov (9x18mm), but it's not likely that you'll make that mistake. It's much more common that folks will accidentally buy 9mm Parabellum for .380 or Makarov firearms.

i have a box of UZI 9mm 115 gr IMI (Israel) it says 115 gr 9mm luger (parabellum ) underneath the word Luger on the box so that tells me they are the same bullet only different countries have different words for the 9mm.
