I've had my Bushmaster AR15 for about a year now, and I have somewhere in the range of 700 to 800 rounds through it. No malfunctions yet, but since I haven't taken it apart and given it a good bath yet, I'm sure it's about due. I did break it open and swab the bore a few times, but that's it.

Anyway, is there a "How to Clean Your AR15 For Dummies" book out there? What would you recommend as the best all around AR book?

When I bought the gun, the shop owner took it apart and showed me everything, but he did it so fast (obviously well experienced) that little stuck in my head.

Thanks in advance!

If your looking for a book on owning and improving the accuracy of your AR
I can recommend two books.

The first is The Complete Guide to AR-15 Accuracy by Derrick Martin
Derrick Martin (Accuracy Speaks,Inc.) and Barrett Tillman have put together a new book on the AR-15 with chapters ranging from cleaning and maintenance, tricky gunsmithing secrets, triggers, float tubes, re-barreling, and more. The material in this book covers the use of the AR-15 in service rifle shooting, match rifle shooting, and IPSC shooting. These guys really know the AR-15. Soft cover 275 pages.

And the other is

Competitive AR-15 by Glenn Zediker
This is one of the most informative technical books we have seen on the AR. Glen Zediker is a professional writer (wrote Highpower Rifle with David Tubb and the Rifle Shooter with David Tubb)and a High Master service rifle shooter. He has spent years shooting and experimenting with the AR-15, and this book speaks with authority. Glen includes extensive interviews with nationally famous shooters like D. I. Boyd, Derrick Martin, David Tubb and Sgt.Lew Tippie to back-up his own experience. This is a 288 page "must read" if you are interested in the AR-15. Soft cover.

Thanks for the book suggestions.

Harry that website is pretty cool.

I'm a member at AR15.com, but that site ALWAYS runs slow for me....REALLY slow. Don't know why......But anyway I wanted a few books to keep on the workbench so I could work on the rifle and have reference material right in front of me.

oooohhh...maybe I could take the wife's laptop computer down to the bunker with me! I keep forgetting that I put it on a wireless network.....

I have all the books already mentioned, and each have something to offer that others may not. I would add to the list the Bushmaster Assembly Video which costs about $20. I would also recommend the two books put out by Walt Kuleck - The AR-15 Complete Assembly Guide and The AR-15 Complete Owners Guide. You can't have too much information.

Yeah, a video might be helpful. As much as I like to read, I prefer lots of pictures when assembling or disassembling things.

Arfcom is the best if you want to learn about the black rifle. It'll take time, but you'll learn how to put it together and what to put on it.

Yes, that's a great idea.

Only thing is, we'd probably have to do it at your house. My house is SMALL (think shack size) and my basement is a 5'5 high dungeon, commonly referred to as "The Bunker"

The wife and kids would NEVER let us have a moment of peace.

Oh, and the wife has never seen the evil black rifle. She knows nothing of its existence

Next Wed night could work. I'll bring some frothy beverages for afterwards if you like.
