Best barrel length for slugs? (got mossy 500a)

Which one has rifled sites? Does the 28" just have the bead site on the end?
The rifled sites will be better but usually a longer barrel with its sites farther apart
will get more accuray...are they both smoothbore? Or is the 18.5" have a rifled barrel,
that is with grooves like a rifle? Rifled barrels usually can get better accuracy..if
they are both smooth bore, I would recommend Winchester Super X 1 oz. Foster
type slugs...barrels can be funny on shotguns...do some target practicing with both,
the slugs aren't that expensive an it would onl;y take a few shots to find out...but I
would go with rifle sites over a vent rib or bead....an a scope over both.

IIRC the Mossberg 500 rifled barrels aren't much, even the ones with the cantilever rail for a scope. I'd suggest you seriously consider picking one up and using that instead of a smoothbore if your plan is hunting deer. The rifled barrel will give you the best results.
However if you are just asking about the smoothbore barrels for something like competition that requires slugs and shot being used w/o swapping barrels then the 28" barrel will give you better accuracy; in fact for almost any gun the longer barrel will give better accuracy. Also in this instance the 28" Barrel will allow the powder to burn fully as opposed to the 18.5" which will not, somewhere someone told me once on this board that powder takes 20"-24" of barrel to burn completely so you will also get a higher muzzle velocity from the 28" than you would with the 18.5".
