After years of reloading without one (middle of the road loads for hunting and plinking), I have decided to squeeze some money out of the budget to buy a chronograph. I can do my own statistics and can write down my own values so a bare bones system is what I am looking for. But there are a number of systems out there. What should I in particular LOOK OUT for in a new system? Are there some quirks not generally known by the first time buyer?

My first and only chrono is an F1 Chrono that I picked up from Sportsmans Warehouse for $69. Works great for me. Just make sure you use a steady tripod. Also, I didn't buy a printer but it would be nice. I just didn't have the extra $$ back then.

Am also using the F1 with a cheap camera tripod and the extension read out (digital read out attached with long wire). The extension read out is extremely useful.

I found that eekBay is a great place to get tripods cheap. If you are just a little patient, you should be able to find a good one for $5-10; the shipping cost will be as much as the tripod, in all probability.

Thanks guys.

I have done a lot of business on eBay so will start watching for a cheap tripod. Then purchase an F1 with a remote readout and I should be set. Best place for a good price on an F1? I normally go to Cabela's web site since it is so convenient.

Natchezfor the chrono, unless ya find sale price cheaper, bought the tripod (bout $20) at Walmart. The tripod came with attachment that fits chrono. The remote read out is well worth the extra, especially for us visually challenged.

Vern is more careful than i, am on second one.
