I have a large gun safe but I always keep either a home defense pistol or my carry weapon by my bedside. I would really like a safe that would allow me to keep both by my bedside, thus eliminating my once or more daily trips to the big safe. The bedside safe would have to make me comfortable leaving the house for the day without having to put the gun back into my large safe, so it has to be very sturdy. I would like something large enough to keep two service pistols in with 1 extra mag each that can be mounted somewhere and if by some chance is stolen will be pretty hard to break into. This would allow me to go days while switching weapons without opening the big safe. I have gotten into a nasty habit of leaving the safe door unlocked while I am home so I can get in and out of it, and I am too afraid that I will forget to lock it again when I leave the house. A smaller safe that is more convenient would eliminate all my problems.

Do you think my idea is a good one, or is it careless to leave a gun in a small bedside safe while I am out when I have a large 800lbs (empty weight) gun safe they could be stored in?

Bedside safes like you're about are really designed to keep your gun(s) out of the hands of your kids or other curious visitors to your home.

They really aren't meant to be "theft proof", given the small size of these, it would be easy for a theif to carry it off and open it at their leisure.

Yes I realize you said it would be "bolted" down, but most people with these don't do so, and what are you bolting it to?......a press-board night stand?, the rails of your bed? (see where I'm going with this)

If you can find a good place to hide it*, yet still have quick access to it should the need arise, then it would be ok for what you want to use it for, otherwise, just use the 800lb safe you have (and get back into the habit of locking that sucker)

*maybe something like this (or similar) would work for you Wall Safe and it would also be harder to pry up and walk off with should it be discovered
