Any suggestions for a bedside pistol safe? I want a rapid access push button one so that power source is not an issue. I love the idea of the thumbprint ones, but they require power, as do electronic locks.

I want it to hold a full sized pistol (e.g. my CZ 75), extra mags, and maybe a small flashlight. But I don't want it to be easy for kids to get into (e.g. a key safe if they found the key).

What kind of price range am I looking at here? Obviously, the cheaper, the better (in terms of price, not quality).

What do you use for your bedside safe, and why? Any safes out there I should NOT get (and why)?

I have 2 of these, and I recommend them. It is a very heavy duty safe for it's size. When the door pops open a light comes on, and stays on for a couple seconds. Safe has 2 shelves. On one I keep a .45 pistol that has a
5" barrel (bushing compensator makes it 6"+), and a CZ75B. Note: It will hold a Charter Arms Pathfinder with a 6" barrel. It uses AA batteries. Can open with push buttons or with a key. There's a base plate that can be bolted to the floor or table or whereever. Safe is secured to the baseplate and is easily removed (door must be open to do this). I like the key option in case I or my wife forget the combination. Our children are grown. We do have 2, 2-year old grandchildren. One is at our house quite often. If you buy one of these, then make sure your children won't find the key. Be safe. Hope this helps.

I've used a Versa Mount handgun box for 10 years that's mounted in my truck. It's mounted under my seat and I can access my handgun in seconds.
It uses a Simplex push button locking system that doesn't require batteries. There are hundreds of different lock combinations that you can set yourself.
It's made from steel and it comes in 2 sizes.
Check it out.

Thanks! I'll take a look at those. I really like that VM! I wonder if there's anything like that a little cheaper out there.

I saw another pistol box/safe made by V- Line. I don't have any info on them but you can Google them and get the product info and pics.
