i'm getting my first AR15. what are some good books on maintenance, upgrades, and shooting techniques? i'm not that interested in history.

i've been to AR15.com, but their search function will be down for a few weeks due to their server upgrade.

some books that look interesting so far are:

Some Of The Answer, Urban Carbine by Jim Crews - http://www.marksmans.com/sys-tmpl/carbinetrainingmanual/
AR15.com recommends this one - http://www.ar15.com/content/books/urbanCarbine/

and
The AR-15 Complete Owner’s Guide (2000) by Walt Kuleck with Scott Duff. this can be found on - http://scott-duff.com/
this one was recommend on an article in SWAT magazine

any comments on these?

You've already mentioned one of my favorites - The AR-15 Complete Owner’s Guide. You can order it online, but you'll also find it at many gun shows. The companion book "The AR-15 Complete Assembly Guide" is also very useful, even if you don't plan to build one. The illustrations and descriptions of how everything goes together can be quite handy.

I have Jim Crew's carbine book. It's really good. It covers adjusting your sights, use of the controls, tactical reloads, shooting from various positions and lots more. It's worded clearly and has a lot of illustrations. It's mostly geared around the AR, but also has a small secion on the SKS and another on the AK.

It doesn't really cover maintenance or accessories(except for a small section on the use of lights and another on shooting with a sling). It's mainly just how to use the rifle out of the box. On the other hand, that stuff you can learn here! ;)

Jim's pistol and shotgun books are also very good.
