I have a 20 year old midway tumbler that still gets the job done.

I also have the Lymann 2500 that I am extremely happy with, Thinking about replacing the old midway tumbler with a Lymann just to have a backup incase one goes down. I cant count the number of buckets of brass that have been cleaned with either of them, and they both run for about a week only stopping for dumping and refilling.

I can't speak to the longevity of tumblers cause I've only had one for a couple of months now but I'm tickled with it. It is a Lyman 1200 Auto-Flo.

I am a retired machinist and I've used commercial size tumblers for 25+ years. I said that to say this - I got this one with the Auto-Flo feature because I know that the only thing to dislike about tumbling is separating the parts from the media. It is great to just pull the plug and drain out all the media. Then while it is still running I take my hand and stir the brass around a little to get all the media out then you can just pour out the clean brass.

:D That is so nice. :D I'm gonna do my best to never be without that option - well, at least not until something much better comes along.

Thumler UV-10

You didn't mention the quantities you need to tumble, so my advice may be null and void: I bought a Thumler UV-10 18 months ago. It has performed admirably and quietly. I'm not sure that something made 20 years ago is relevent because many companies "don't make things the way they used to". YMMV

Thanks much for all the replies. It was a great help. I had to make a decision (local Highpower and Benchrest matchs coming soon), and canceled the oft-postponed backorder on the Lyman 2500 with Midway. That said, I was willing to spend a little extra to get a reliable tumbler, for I use them a lot, and came to appreciate just how important it was when it was down. So I was leaning to the Dillon and the Thumlers. I bought a lot of Dillon stuff in the past, so this was a hard decision. I did choose to buy American.

I went with this:

The UV-18. Thanks to those that reminded me of Thumlers.

The poll will go on, as you'd expect, hopefully helping someone in the future.

On a side note, after placing the order, I got some little award at work that translates on some website to a $150 gift certificate for various websites. I chose Cabelas (the only interesting one). Now, do I get a UV-10 too, or do I get more 175 Gr SMK(s)? ;)

Hey, dont bash frankford arsenal too much!!!
I bought a frankford tumbler three years ago on sale at midway usa and its still going strong. I use it for a few hours each weekend, so maybe thats not a lot compared to guys using theirs 40 hours a week, but it also cost me half what some of the brands listed here cost....

Too Early to Tell

Yeah, I've burnt out the motors on two of the big Lyman 2500s. Both of them lasted just a bit past warranty :fire:.

I bought a Berry's tumbler from Grafs, and it's going out - burnt out that one in less than six months. :banghead: but that came with a two year warranty.

I'm running a big Lyman again - bought used at a gun show - until I burn that one out.

Okay, I do load 10-12 thousand rounds a year, and polish 'em overnight in a lot of cases. Maybe I shouldn't expect them to last. :scrutiny:

I'll watch this thread with interest.

I have the Cabales tumbler which as I understand is just a rebadged Berry's. H run the crap out of it over the past 5 years and its still going strong. Had a thought while reading this thread that came back to life. This is just an assumption based on nothing other than maybe's.

Those that have no problem or have tumblers last and last could it be that they do not load them near as heavy. Lighter loads but run longer. Its a thought.
