if by budget you mean "cheapest good deal" then its the Rock Island Armory.

if by budget you mean "quality under 1k" I would say Springfield Loaded

if by budget you mean "most for your money" I got to go with the Springfield TRP

I bought a used Taurus 1911 (stainless with the accessory rail....ugly, but a 1911 nonetheless) for under $400 and have been very pleased. I have not had a ftf or fte and I have put more than 2k rounds through it since i bought it. I would buy a used 1911 at a price you can afford from a dealer you trust and go from there. Don't spend more than $400 on a platform you have no experience with and do not know if you will like....just my .02

If you can find one American Classic Delux Nicer than the Rock Island Should be about $450 In 800 to 1000 Buy a Colt You will sooner or later
In 1000 range Dan Wesson CBOB (bobtail) again hard to find Buds has them for $999 couple weeks ago.
Colt and Dan Wesson have fewest MIM parts Colt 2 DW none Springer& Kimber lots of MIM

cool guys. I was looking at the new Para GI expert. And the Springfield GI. I called my local gun store and they have a used RIA for $450. Is that a good buy?

You can still find new RIAs for ~$400, so I would not pay $450 for a used one.
I had a Charles Daly (same pistol as the Armscor or the RIA) and I had a bad experience with mone. YMMV.

Given your choices, I might go with the Para, although others would go with the Springer. My GF has the Springer GI and the trigger is horrible, at least in comparison to any of my Kimber (all were bought used, several for $575-700).

RIA or the STI Spartan which is an RIA with allegedly better internals and a brand name.

Approaching 15,000 rounds through my oldest RIA. Spent way more on the ammo run through it than I did on the gun.

--wally.

Who has RIA's in stock these days? Centerfiresystems.com used to always have a bunch of different models but lately they only list the 5" .45 GI model and it's perpetually out of stock.

Allsafe Security in Douglas, AZ (520.805.1970) did have three; well now two as I bought one.

They are closed on Mondays.

RIA is a safe bet, I have one in 38 super, kinad sorta turned it into a STI Spartan with out the name.

STI Spartan.

Check out Dawson Presicions' web site. Dave sells em' for around $600.00, and you get the dawson adjustable rear and a fiber optic front.

Good quality internals, and I have been impressed with the barrel and slide fits on every one I have seen.

Good accuracy, and excellent function right out of the box. I bought one to use as my game gun for IDPA/USPSA, and have enjoyed it very much.

The Spartan is a very reasonably priced entry level 1911 that offers some outstanding features.

I looked at the spartan but its just too much. Im 15 and my dad will buy it and i will use it for 4-h competitions. Im gonna put on some of my own sights so adjustable is not a big issue.

I tend to think the best buys in 1911s are Colts and Les Baers. I like Colts because you get a no frills yet distinctly quality pistol. With Les Baers you get an excellent semi custom pistol that is on par with the 2500 and up jobs.

First time I have heard Les Baers called budget guns. Good values perhaps but not really what most would call "budget." I think that Norinco's are possibly the best budget guns out there.
