Rifle is a Remmington 700 VLS with a 26" heavy barrel with a 1 in 12" twist. What is the best cheap ammo for the money:

Wolf
Brown Bear
Fiocchi
American Eagle
PMC Bronze
Remington UMC
Winchester USA

depends on what type of shooting you want to do.

but why would you want crap ammo in a precision rifle?

i like fiocchi 40grn V-MAX in my rem M-600.Good stuff.I wouldn't call it cheap & i don't plink i hunt with it.
PMC is cheap. & what i plink with.

This is just for plinking and practice. I buy better stuff when I am shooting for points. I am looking into reloading to get costs down, but am worried about the amount of time that that would require.

Either Ultramax or Black Hills "remanufactured" 223 ammo, would get my vote.

+1 ultramax...if you can find it.

(been out of stock everywhere for awhile and i'm down to about 50 rounds of the 55gr B-tips that shoot great out of my CZ 527-V)

Fiochi is pretty good to though.

with a 1/12 twist, this is the ammo you want;
plain blue box, plain 55 grainers, black hills. 50 rounds per.
plain jane remmy/umc white/green box, 55 grainers, hollow points, then solids.
wolf 55 or 62 grainers, the 62's actualy show more potential, but you will get a flyer now and then; they are close to max weight for that twist rate.
Best of all, if you can find them, and they won't be cheap, winchester
45 grain varmint/hollow points, big white boxes, 40 rounds per.

This is my cz 527, 1/12 twist; proly more accurate than your rifle, but should be comparable. these targets were done at 100 yds, off sandbag rests, front and back. The winnies , yes they are actually 1 hole shot groups.

I've been seeing pretty solid, consistent performance from 55gr .223 Fiocci ammo.

There is a nice little company in Conroe TX. Collins Cartridge Company. Accuracy wise it beat out the store bought stuff I had at the time. cccammo.com

I took the plunge and bought a Dillon loader so I can load my own. Big up front cost, but will pay off later. I should be able to reload for about 40% of what it costs for manufactured ammo. That's the plan, we'll see. I love the guys that buy all the manufactured ammo and leave all the brass on the ground. That's going to bring my cost even farther down. But up till now I've plunked with PMC, which hasn't been too dirty and I'm getting very good results.

Has anyone else heard of this Collins Cartridge Company? I looked at the website and their stuff is pretty cheap ($37.47 for 100 rounds of remanufactured 55 grain FMJ or $181.17 for 500 rounds). I guess I am always a little skeptical of small internet retailers.
