Well, I currently have a 20 gauge 870 Express for clay games and "social work," but my gut tells me I need a 12 gauge, too (you know how it is :) )...

Problem is, I only have about 300 bucks to spend. I could push that to $500 in a pinch, but the lower, the better. I'd like to use it mostly for skeet but also for (you guessed it) HD and SHTF.

Should I go with an 1100/11-87? Maybe a Saiga? I'd like to get a decent quality gun.

Thanks in advance.

Difference in cheap and inexpensive...

I don't recommend off brands as they often have parts problems ...even amongst same models - specs change.

Best value for dollar, proven quality, reliability , parts avail...USED- Such as : Rem 1100, Beretta 302, Beretta 303,... Getting to more monies, Beretta 390, Browning "Humpback", SX1

If you like the feel of the Remington that you have now shop around for a used 1100. You should be able to track one down in the lower end of your price range.

If you want a very versatile shotgun (anything from powder-puff 2¾" loads to the 3½" goose and turkey stompers), I highly recommend the Baikal MP153:

I've owned one and shot several of these guns, and they've been ultra-reliable and very smooth. I know people tend to look down on them as being somehow a lesser gun than the Remchester variety, but they really are excellent. They're also built like a tank, and are likely to outlast you! Street prices are in the $325-$375 range, and they can be had with synthetic furniture instead of wood, if you prefer. Well worth a look.

In the title you said you were open to a pump gun. So my recomendation is to go with it. I got an 870 new for $260. That's a good deal for these parts but in other areas they can be even cheaper. Auto's are cool but if you really want a work horse in SHTF stuff, I believe most people will agree that the pump is the way to go. Plus you can't go 'cha-chink' with a semi.;)
