Just like the title says: I want to hear opinions on the best concealable 9mm semi-auto handgun..

AND "why" you think it's the best......

thanks!

Strab...search option.

That being said I like the Glock 26 because it's accurate, super reliable, super small, light weight and easy to conceal. You know, all the reasons everyone else will recommend their particular favorite.

My preference is for the Kahr P9, because it's accurate, super reliable, super small, light weight and easy to conceal.

If you're in the market to buy, be sure to look at the Taurus PT111 Millennium Pro. Nice reliable gun in the $270-300 range. Comes with two 12 round mags and looks a lot like the Glock 26. It's hard to justify spending hundreds more when this one does the job.

Kahr PM9. Lighter, thinner, and more concealable than ANY 9mm out there, except the Rohrbaugh, which I would vote for except for the price.

don't forget superfat!!

I like the 26, but it is indeed a little on the thick side. I think the some of the Kahrs and KelTecs may be thinner, but I dont know if they are quite as reliable...

Well since you titled this thread Best concealable 9mm semi I'd say the best 9mm at concealment is the Rohrbaugh R9 ... followed by the Kahr P9.

'cause they are tiny

My favorite is the BHP with the shortened "Detective" barrel and slide. Does everything it's bigger brother can do, but more comfortable with an IWB holster.

The Kahr P9 is the best of both worlds in that you can have a light, small, thin gun which feels like a bigger gun ( only in your hands) when your shooting it or aiming it..... The newer DLC P9s seem to be the most realible........drf

What alduro said. I recently picked up a Glock 26 and now am kicking myself for not getting one earlier. Light, reliable, and it seems to put it's bullets right where I point it.

But, as another man said, your mileage may vary.

I carry two Kahr 9mm's: a P9 Covert in an IWB and a PM9 in a pocket holster.

Exactly. It's the most usuable 9mm handgun you can really shoot and concel in your pocket:

Concealable not tiny and impractical due to its size!:barf:

They are just too expensive for a gun you won't shoot on a regular basis!

$949 for that! Hell, you can buy a Sig P210 or an HKP7M8 or M13 for that $$$.

And out of that short a barrel, I'd like to see the ballistics of how 9mm performs out of a 2.9" barrel.

I am in the same boat, trying to figure out the best 9mm piece to CCW. I have 3 handguns right now, Taurus PT-111 Mil Pro, Steyr S9, and Walther P99. The Taurus is definitely the smallest all around, and very concealable. it is about the 2nd in size after Kahr's PM9. Here's a comparison photo. I also favor the PT-111 as the magazine has finger rest so you can get full hand on the grip, and not have to curl back the little finger like on Kahr or Glock26.

I have, and love the compact Glocks but they don't come close to the Kahr P-9 for truly concealability in a quality pistol. I like the ruggedness and higher capacity of the baby Glocks but they just can't hide like a pistol that's only .90 thick. As usual, just my (fairly) humble opinion !

Favorite Concealable 9mms, eh?

Very good question, as I love the 9mm round.

It depends on what you mean by "concealable".... 4 categories:

1. If you mean "smart carry/ankle holster/pocket carry", when thin-ness AND small-ness are paramount, the answer (for me) is the Kahr MK9 (9093 BOX). $389 new retail if you look - much less than other Kahrs. Or, better yet, the Rohrbaugh R9 would be the ultimate if you can afford it. Also good would be the Kimber "Ultra RCP" or Para-Ordnance "Covert Black Carry" 1911s, *IF* you could get them to make one for you in 9x19 (possible but not likely without a lot of $$). The latter choices in .45 acp are nice however.

2. If you mean "tuckable IWB/other IWB/Deep concealment", then the answer could be those from category #1, or you could also add larger but thin guns like the Sig 225, 3.5" and 4" 1911s in 9mm such as the STI "BLS9", other Kahrs such as the K9, or HK P7M8 or P7PSP - these would be excellent slimline choices, and perfect for tuckable IWB ("deep concealment"). Of course, YMMV since many carry 2-stacks IWB - I find that way too uncomfortable and requiring a different wardrobe of pants & belts.

3. If you mean "belly band/fanny pack/purse (man-purse?) carry", where you can go thicker without printing and thus get more capacity, but need small overall dimensions, then the answer is the CZ 2075 Rami, Springfield XD subcompact (or its more expensive yet inferior cousin, the Glock 26), Walther P99 subcompact, or compact 5-shot 9mm 2" revolver, if ultimate reliability is your premium.

4. If you mean "standard/primary/strong side or cross-draw/OWB (paddle or BS) holster - with covering garment", the are a thousand choices (and a hundred *good* choices) in this and the full-sized categories, but I like the CZ 75 compact PCR, or CZ P01. Or for a little more, maybe a Sig 228/229 (preferably the 228). Or the Bersa Thunder 9 if you're on a real budget (real good gun value).

However, I should point out that in category 4, with proper clothing, *many* people find that a full-sized gun is no harder to conceal than a compact such as those mentioned, and of course you'd add sight radius and so forth. BUT, my personal thoughts on this subject is that *IF* you do run with full-sized for primary, you're better off with a single stack like a 1911 or some such, because I find that a full-sized AND 2-stack gun prints too much in the bottom-of-grip area into your covering garment (for me to be comfortable carrying with same out in public). So I like a compact 2-stack like the CZ P01, OR a full-sized 1-stack, but prefer the former, due to capacity reasons and available offerings, and I have no printing issues with proper jacket or sweatshirt.

So, IMO, the choice all comes down to EXACTLY HOW you are going to carry, and are you going to carry in only 1, or 2, or 3, or all 4 of the above carry modes, and depending on the answer to that, how many guns (budget) can you get to fill the 1, 2, 3, or 4 roles? If the budget only allows 1 gun, AND you want to carry in all 4 modes that dictate dimensions, then you'd best get a gun in category 1. If you're going to carry in all but category 1 (2, 3, and 4), then something in category 2 will best fit your needs. If you're going to carry in categories 3 and 4, but not 1 or 2, then something in category 3 will fit your needs best. If you're going to carry only in cat 4, then something from cat 4 will be best. If you have the budget for 4 or more handguns, then it doesn't matter, you can get 1 or more for each category (size range), or better yet, 1 for each specific carry mode, if you're willing to train enough so that you know how to use the different manuals of arms if/when you need to use the gun.

I have cat 1 covered, with the Kahr MK 9093 BOX, and cat 4 covered, with the CZ 75 Compact PCR. Both have the same *essential* manual of arms (just point and click - no manual safety). If I ever get a pistol to dedicate to category 2 (tuckable deep concealment), then it will be an HK P7 (also point and click). If I ever get a pistol to dedicate cat 3 carry, then it will probably be the CZ 2075 RAMI pistol, although I dunno, since it's got no decocker - may have to run with the Walther or XD instead. As it stands, the Kahr covers cats 1, 2, and 3. I know, I know, over-analyzed, but hey...

I was just about to suggest the P7 myself. Great weapon. Dead-on accurate. very concealable. added plus is that if someone does happen to take it away from you, they probably will have a hard time figuring out how the blasted thing works. To go along with that, I would definitely recommend plenty of practice with it prior to carrying, as the manual of arms is a bit different. Once you are used to it, though, you can put it on target and keep it there, even through a reload, faster than any other pistol I've tried.

Kahr P9 / CW9

The Kahr P9 / CW9 win this one for me...

I received CW9 a couple of weeks ago and I am VERY impressed...
Great feel, balance. Slender and lightweight.

Great CCW piece - Hope to get to the range this weekend to break her in...
I will do a Militec treatment before I go...

Paid $359.99 NIB + $10.50 shipping.

Order a spare mag... CW9 only comes with one but no biggie...

I'd take the P7, except it's probably as expensive as the Rohborgh, you'll definitely feel it with every scratch you put on the piece. On the other hand, how much is your life worth? If investing in a more expensive gun will allow you to carry it more often or always, then it'd have served its purpose.

I have both a Glock 33 and Kahr P9 Covert.

I definetly vote for the Kahr P9 Covert.

I like the Covert over the PM Series as it gives a lil more barrel length and sight radius but it still has the recessed butt for IWB optimization.

I'll throw another vote in for the p7.

They aren't cheap, but if you look around for a police trade in they aren't as expensive as everyone makes them out to be (I've got 3 and have averaged about $650 a piece)
