Oh my god.... Those were the only words I could conjure when I got this rifle to the back seat of my Ford Explorer.

Rewind 10 minutes.

I walked into my local dealer, the same that I get all my good deals from. As I was strolling along, gazing at the rifles upon the wall, I noticed something new that wasn't there a few days ago. It was a Winchester M70, post '64. Upon closer inspection of the hang tag, I noticed the caliber...338. Well, I wasn't holding out any hope at all that this little gem would be affordable for me and I really wasn't expecting what happened next! I casually asked, "How much for the Winchester?" "$250", says the shop owner. Now, I am starting to wonder whats up and I ask why its priced so low. I was explained how the consigner needed a fast sale and priced it to sell. Well, duh.

Please forgive my feet in the pic, these were rather hastily taken.:banghead:
So, after all was said and done, I walked out with a 95%+ Winchester M70, with a sweet trigger pull, chambered in .338 for $271 OTD. I got home, installed a Pentax 2-5x scope in some Leupold aluminum rings and I now have a rifle capable of taking any animal in North America. Only problem is, it only weighs 8.5lbs. Time for a Limbsaver recoil pad.:what:

Oh my god...

VERY nice deal Jackal. :)

Just wish I could find those kinds of deals around here...it seems I am either a day late or a dollar short. :(

Couple of years ago I went to the gunshow in Phoenix. I seldom buy any guns at a show, most of them are overpriced junk. But then I spy this cute little rifle, pick it up. Browning micro medallion in 22/250. I already have 2 22/250's already. How much? $375, and I will throw in a set of RCBS dies, 2 boxes of ammo, 200 pieces of new brass. Sold....

While filling out the paperwork, I see this other familiar looking rifle off to the side. Ask to look at it. Weatherby Mark V in 340 Weatherby, brand new, still have the plastic knob on the bolt handle. Oh, that is on consignment from an estate, they will take $450. SOLDDDDD!!! I needed a 340 Weatherby like a hole in the head, since I have another Weatherby in 338, almost identical. It kicks like a mule, but what a fun rifle.

Nice deal- I don't "need" it either but it would have had to come home with me for that too. I remember the 7mmm mag a guy just wanted rid of. He had a remington adl 7mm mag with a scope. I knew he only had a box or two of shell thru it. for 250.00 I could not say no... it shoots nice too.

Yup, that seems to be one nice thing about these magnum rifles, nobody actually shoots them much and when acquired second hand, they look almost new. I plan on going elk hunting with my uncle and I was going to use an 8mm Mauser, well not now!:D I love living in a retirement community. People pass on, I pick up thier guns for a song.

jackel- since you are living in the retirement community - when ya pass on make sure those guns make thier way to me- I am young enough to enjoy them for a long while :p

Haha, me too, I'm only 21.:neener:

Also, I am thinking about taking care of a really nasty coyote with this, I could use my .243, but I want him REALLY dead.

Great deal!
I know where a 7MM Winchester post-64 70 is that I can pick up for $375.
It's been calling me but I am trying not to hear it!
