Oh my god.... Those were the only words I could conjure when I got this rifle to the back seat of my Ford Explorer.
Rewind 10 minutes.
I walked into my local dealer, the same that I get all my good deals from. As I was strolling along, gazing at the rifles upon the wall, I noticed something new that wasn't there a few days ago. It was a Winchester M70, post '64. Upon closer inspection of the hang tag, I noticed the caliber...338. Well, I wasn't holding out any hope at all that this little gem would be affordable for me and I really wasn't expecting what happened next! I casually asked, "How much for the Winchester?" "$250", says the shop owner. Now, I am starting to wonder whats up and I ask why its priced so low. I was explained how the consigner needed a fast sale and priced it to sell. Well, duh.
Please forgive my feet in the pic, these were rather hastily taken.:banghead:
So, after all was said and done, I walked out with a 95%+ Winchester M70, with a sweet trigger pull, chambered in .338 for $271 OTD. I got home, installed a Pentax 2-5x scope in some Leupold aluminum rings and I now have a rifle capable of taking any animal in North America. Only problem is, it only weighs 8.5lbs. Time for a Limbsaver recoil pad.
