Which gun magazines do you guys read? I frequent a news shop to buy my daily paper and he has several different publications on the rack. I could stand there and look through them but there's a big sign on the rack stating, "this ain't the library".

It might be helpful if you stated your primary interest. Handguns? Rifles? Tactical Weapons?

I subscribe to Combat Handguns, American Handgunner, Guns and Ammo, Guns, Shooting Times, and America's First Freedom. I occasionally pick up Guns and Weapons for Law Enforcement and I think the last one is called Guns and Weapons for Military and Police I read them all.

As kda suggested, tell us your primary interests. There are magazines for shotguns, hunting, and just about any shooting sport there is out there.

I like Double Gun and Single Shot Journal for classic rifles and shotguns.

I like American Handgunner for handguns.

I don't know of a good magazine for modern rifles. I used to like Rifle and Handloader for the subject but I think they've both slipped in the last couple of years.

I don't know of any good magazines concerning military/tactical rifles because that's not my interest.

I suppose American Rifleman might be good for modern rifles and military/tactical rifles, but I confess to skipping most of those articles. I probably wouldn't buy Rifleman on a newsstand, but I do notice that it's been getting better lately.

Without meaning to offend anyone, I've given up on Guns & Ammo, Shooting Times, Guns, and Gun Tests. They all seemed to be either filled with press releases, written for the entry-level shooter, or trying to make concrete judgments with samples of one.

I have a subscription to American Handgunner. Not to tacticool and has alot of interesting articles. If youre into hunting you should pick up a copy of Kentucky Afield.

American Handgunner and American Rifleman. The others I peruse at my leisure for free in the mag section of the grocery store, they couldn't care less.

I should have included this in my original post. My main interest is handguns. Reading unbiased reports about the various pistols on the market and what may be coming in the future from the different manufacturers. Also reports on other gear like holsters, tips on maintenance, etc.

American Handgunner is probably the best for handgun shooters. I seem to read through most gun mags in 5 - 20 minutes. It takes me a couple of hours to absorb everything in American Handgunner.

Shotgun News. Where else can you read about $1,500.00 "Mid priced" scopes?

Small Arms Review, S.W.A.T., Gun Tests are all excellent. Guns and Weapons for LE and Military is pretty good too, although last I was able to read that one they had half black and white pages, but the articles aren't any worse for it. I also subscribe to Guns and Ammo, however I don't think I'll be renewing that one.

I like Shooting Times and American Handgunner and the NRA magazines. Some of the gun annuals aren't bad.

Combat Handguns and American Handgunner are numbers 1 & 2 for me. Note that the "digital edition" of American Handgunner is free on their website:

http://www.americanhandgunner.com/digital/AHSO09.htm

It's the same as the printed magazine except the ads are linked to the advertiser's websites.

I pick up Shotgun News a few times a year to check the "going rate" on random surplus crap that looks good in or on my Unimog... :)
