Gun & Porn Magazines

Is my local Borders the only one that puts them on the same section of the rack? Do you think this was done specifically to make shooters uncomfortable when they come in to look for reading materials, or to make minors think that they can't buy shooting rags (see "illustration")? Or am I just reading too much into it? Remember, Borders has some of the most liberal looking staff (i.e purple hair, piercings etc) of any store I go to.

I generally pick up gun magazines at the grocery store, book store or Walmarts. None of them sell porn, so I've not had this problem to date.

My local Borders doesn't stock any firearms magazines, so I've taken my business elsewhere. The manager acted hurt when I told him why I wasn't doing business with his store.

Heck. I open up to the center fold in both mags first. I whistle to myself and dream of what it would be like to have that altumite .45 and the 18 year old blond from Kentucky at the same time. Both just pipe dreams thou! I cant aford the hi-cap .45 and the blond.

LOL! Our Hastings has them in the same section... but I think it's because they're a lot more likely to get "cross-buying" than if they put the porn next to Martha Stewart Kids.

If she is anything like my Grammaw was, there wont be a problem. My grandmom was a gun owner from way back in her IL days. One time me, my Mom and Grandmom were strolling through a thrift store looking for something. I was in the next isle over and watched as my Grandmom picked up a Playboy from a stack of used ones for sale. She thumbded through it, looked at the pictures and started snickering and laughing. I realized then she had a warped sence of humor.

As for the thread topic, I have seen the same thing here in IL. I really don't know why they do it, but it doesn't really bother me.
I buy what I want, and if there is an adult magazine next to a gun magazine, thats OK.

They don't put porn near the gun mags here in San Francisco. They put the porn next to Harry Potter, etc. It is, of course, GAY porn...

The Borders here has gun mags, but nothing as racy as the trash mags at 7-11.

Books a Million near here has the gun and outdoor mags right next to the gay section. Probably starts some interesting conversations. Maybe the pink pistols needs a recruiting poster there.

I personally get annoyed when porn gets lumped in with guns. The proper location for gun mags is in the outdoors or sportsman magazines. The Borders you were in must consider guns to be in the dirty section.


There was a guy who did gun shows in the PA area that go in trouble for selling porn at gun shows. What the hell was he thinking??

my local supermarket doesnt sell naughty magazines, but they do put the gun rags next to maxim/stuff/stun/fhm.

i was more than a little irritated to discover they stopped stocking BLADE and other knife magazines.

when i go to the checkout counter and have various gun rags and stuff or stun mixed in, the checkout clerk almost always stops to admire the cover of the gunrags, and doesnt even notice the semi-clothed female on the other mags.

Guns worse than porn!

I dimly remember reading some editorial back in the '70's about some guy (hey, I just remembered, I think it was by that Bob Greene clown from Chicago) who was on a plane and saw some guy looking at a "hard core porn magazine." It was a shooting magazine. Horrors! Disgust! Revulsion! He then waxed on about how it was worse than porn because of the innocent blood shed by guns, blah, blah, fart, fart.

I remember that some hunters invited Bob Greene to go with them. He did. Had a good time. Liked the guys. Still thought they were wrong on the gun issue. Further proof that people believe what they want to believe and gather those "facts" which support their preconception. In the immortal words of Bill the Cat: "Thppppwpphfft!"
