Ok, I've been in Macon for 10 months. I work in Perry. Haven't found a big gun store yet. Is there a big store with a large selection in Middle GA? I guess I was spoiled when I lived in Atlanta....the 10,000 guns in stock at Adventure Outdoors was like going to a gun show every time I darkened their door.
Wha place in Middle GA has the best selection?
Thanks,

David

You have Bass Pro in Macon. Not one of their biggest stores, but still a nice store.

i've been a fan of barrow automotive in butler,ga. since the mid-80's. i'm (usuallly) just north of columbus, and it takes an hour or so to drive there. the last time i went it was be cause the jerk that owns shooters of columbus wanted ultra-max retail for a glock 26, and absolutely wouldn't budge, though i told him i had the money in my pocket, and would prefer to keep the buisness local. it was worth the drive to me to stiff him on the buisness and save $45 bucks. (oops, am i ranting? sorry:D) anyway, barrow doesn't have the super-cool stock of euro assault rifles they used to, ( HK's, FN's, Valmets,Steyrs, etc. ) but it's still a cool operation with a great selection and prices, well worth the piddly drive from macon, i'd say.
also, if you're in the columbus area, nationwide pawn on farr road is a great operation, too.DL has a lot of cool stuff lying around, knows his stuff, and isn't above a little price manouvering on occasion.

Mil-Dot, let me guess that your unhappy experience was at a store with an indoor range? Just guessing...

When I was stationed at Ft Benning I went to Nationwide Pawn a lot. The owner is a really cool guy and will work with you. Plus he has some cool stuff in there. Shooters of Columbus has a better selection but they can have some pretty high prices and a couple of the employees (when I was there 2 years ago) were jerks.

is Macon anywhere near Roswell?
No, Roswell is a northern Atlanta suburb. Macon is about 80 miles or so south of Atlanta.
Thanks for your replies, folks.
Let me know if you think of another.

"The rifleman" is good. It is south of town on the way to Warner Robins. Class 3 dealer. Always something neat in there. They have treated me well in the past and they have been a generous supporter of the Mercer Law School 2nd Amendment Society.

A to Z guns on Vineville is ok. Lots of AR-15 stuff and pretty good prices.

Academy - pretty good selection (a chain store that sells M-4s - pretty cool). Prices are reasonably across the board.

Howard's Pawn - good selection. Some prices are high, some are good.

yeah, hutch......one and the same. and no need to be discreet, i've already called them by name !! i see someone else has called them out,as well. LOL .

Nationwide Pawn in Columbus= closed due to fire damage last time I checked. Owner says they will re-open.
Shooters in Columbus= See Mil-Dot and C-grunt comments. At least they are consistent with crappy service
Barrow guns, Butler GA= awesome

Other than that I would say attend the gun show at the North Atlanta Trade Center in Gwinnett the first weekend in December. It is usually large with a good selection.

Mark,
Columbus, GA

Ingleside Gunworks is one of the best stores in Macon IMHO. The service is great and their selection is excellent. They also offer gunsmithing and handloading services.

Northside Pawn on Manchester Expy in Columbus was OK. Guy would work with you.

Shooters was ok, but they targeted the Fort. High prices and Tacticool stuff. They did carry some surplus and used guns.

hey howard.....yeah, last time i went by (over two months ago ) nationawide was still re-stocking the shelves in their original building, but looked close to being fully operational. they weren't actually "open" yet but i got lucky and happened to drop by when the doors were unlocked, i hung out and chatted with DL and the other old guy ( can remember his name) for almost an hour, and perused the various types of AK ammo on hand.
also, to be fair to shooters, my only beef was with the owner, everytime i've dealt with regular employees, they've been very patient and helpful. but after buying two walthers, various ammo, cleaning stuff, a couple holsters, a rifle case, plus bringing two friends in that both bought guns, and then getting the snotty brush off from the owner was enough to piss me off for life. i don't go in the place anymore.

Chuck's in Warner Robins is good.

What do you do in PERRY, of all places...? I travel to Clinchfield for work all the time and normally stay in Perry or WR.

Hi MilDot, The other guy was Daves brother Johnny. I have bought very little from Shooters. I used to shoot IPSC with John back in the day.
