best lubricant for various gun metals

there are many types of gun actions and finishes. various flavors of steels, aluminum, plastics, polymers and carbon fiber, for instance.

i'm wondering if different lubricants work better on different surface?

although i'm curious in general, I'm specifically interested in stainless steel on stainless steel because i've put together a new 10/22 in 22lr with a stainless steel receiver and bolt. moving the parts around feel a lot different than my AR's aluminum receiver or plastic pistols, etc.
 
I like to soak the whole metal existence in sweetshooters for a couple of days, then take it out, and apply molyfusion to the bolt assy, inside receiver, and the bore. Let that sit for a couple more days. Don't get any in thechamberarea/bolt face, though. you need that good friction lockup. After doing all that, any old lube i need at the time will do.
 
My experience with stainless (or any gun for that matter) is that any good oil or gun grease works as long as you don't gob on the thick grease when it's freezing outside. If you want one specifically formulated for stainless try a little RIG +P grease. I've tried them all on my Kimber Stainless Gold Match and they all work. I have partial bottles and tubes of lube going back 40+ years. :)

If you use regular gun oil and there is plastic/rubber, it will most likely eat it away. That is why I use silicone oil when there is plastic or rubber involved. It doesn't eat away the plastic/rubber. It works quite well.
 
well, i tried a motor oil today.. not specifically mobil 1. i think it was a little thick. it wouldn't cycle properly most of the day. i just cleaned it all out and will try again with CLP next time.
