Fleabay has take off 7.5" bbls for 160 ish.
A pistol smith is gonna charge ? to swap em out
If 2 hrs $75 an hr...........you're at 310 changing bbls (or course you'd have your orig bbl to possibly sell to recoup some $).

Cheaper proly to just sell the 10" and buy a factory 7.5".

Now...............if you wanted something like an 8".......ported, no front sight..........then I'd go and have the frame D&T and bolt down a base.
Go for that Magnaport look (they offered some hunter model like that IIRC).

The no drill mounts are kinda bulky, with that, the gun proly look best w the longer bbl.

Off to the gunshop, see what's new.
Automaker town, profit sharing checks.........any cool old rigs will be gone by tomorrow afternoon.
That and tax checks........nobody getting rid of anything, not for what......2 months.
Then they'll be overextended and stuff get sold.
Esp deer hunting guns.
Best time to buy a .44 mag is early summer.
Since my state went PCR, .44 mag and boomer specialty pistols.........market sucks (for selling, buying is good).
Talked to a TC dealer, the .35 rem Super 14 used to be a top seller, says he can't hardly give em away now.
I've had two, and now have a .35 rem rifle..............I know why :)

If I see a pre warning SBH cheap I'll buy it.
Had one, shot great.........was an idiot and sold it.
Got a minty old model..........that was not as good (no wonder it was mint).

Do you really think swapping the barrels will take so long?

And if OP gets a 7.5 inch barrel from Ruger, he can select the Hunter style one with the scope ring notches already cut into it.

I don't know what the full process of changing a bbl would be, if fitting required.
Shop charge would be minimum of an hr.

BTW aren't all Ruger hunter bbls for SBH stainless?

Personally, I think the rib for the rings on the Hunter bbls to look like crap on a single action.
No fan of Bisley grip either.

Scoping a SBH...............the Magnaport hunter model I posted is the best looking IMHO.

I am not having them do a rebarrel job, as to me that would make the gun feel less original.
I would actually prefer and like a 'do it at home' job, as long as it's still a competent job.
The front site on my Ruger is screwed in, meaning it's a job of unscrewing it, taking it off, then cutting the barrel. I just need to reattach it somehow.

Eh? A home saw job would be more original than a manufacturer rebarrel? Unpossible.

I meant the gun original, complete, as it was when it originally left the factory, and when it originally first entered my hands. The gun was made in the 80s. Using a part that was made this decade would make it feel off.
And besides the gun is special to me. Just that four extra inches of barrel are killing me

I hear you but don’t get how sawing a barrel is going to feel original. Just me I guess. Carry on.

Scopes............no batteries to fail.
No need to turn on/off.

PITA to learn to use. Many folks overscope.
If it's an eye deal, try to find an old Burris 1X.
If can't, start w a 2X.
2X Bushnell (Still have rear sight) Someone converted this .22 LR to .22 Mag, so I got it very reasonable. Had to polish the cylinders, but cases fall out now and shoots very well.

Scope quality isn't great, but it is very functional.

I can't really recommend a certain pistol scope, other than to say stick with proven brands and don't skimp, buy till it hurts a little, a scope lasts forever.

I agree that too much power isn't a good idea in a handgun, especially if you intend to hunt with it.

Barrel length? Whatever floats your boat. Can you hold that pistol steady?
