So I 've got an obvious newbie question for everyone. I've just purchased my first AR and taken it out three times, its due for a cleaning especially since the last time I took it out I shot it in a dusty field w/gusty winds. I've looked on you-tube but it seems everyone has a different way of doing it and people tend to bash whatever video I'm looking at in the comment section on youtube. I'm looking for a quality, simple to follow video that teaches me to do it the right way. Thanks for your help!

there's not really a single "right way" to do it.

there are many wrong ways.

don't stick anything in the gas tube (you can squirt brake cleaner or compressed air in it if you are really bored)
don't waste a lot of time chipping carbon off the tail of the bolt and if you do, be careful not to damage it.
don't damage the crown of the muzzle by jerking jags back through it

inspect the springs while you have it apart
inspect the firing pin tip, extractor rim etc
inspect the bolt lugs and cam hole for cracks

put lots of lube back on it
function check on the trigger when you put it back together
