Gun store nearest me does not carry much ammo. Is there a popular place on-line to order ammo and is it cheaper than simply buying ammo at indoor gun range?

Cheap Ammo

Friend of mine told me that Wallmart was having a sale on .40 S&W ammo. I went down to the local store and paid $17.95 for 100 rounds of Winchester 165Gr FMJ. I bought 4 boxes to try out. Salesman told me that it wasn't a "special" that it was the regular price.

I'm not an ammo expert but when I looked on line that price seemed hard to beat.

I have to plug Reeds Ammunition as well. Ron is a great guy and has some really neat custom loads in hard to find calibers as well as mainstream rounds.

Good Idea....

...online, as in anywhere is to shop around.

I maintain an Excel Worksheet costing out ammo(both a variety of pistol calibers & AK47 ammo) per round or per box of 50 AFTER shipping. I update it for a quick comparison using all the sites listed above (and another couple of ones) whenever I go shopping.

Usually the list price is pretty uniform, although you can find surprising deals. But what kills you could be the shipping. Once you toss that in, an excellent looking deal in one place becomes pretty mediocre compared overall.

Then, like any other consumer commodity, it boils down to customer service and speed of shipping. When I just want my ammo RIGHT NOW, I will order from Cheaperthandirt despite their (often) ludicrous prices because I am confident I will get my ammo same week (even delivered on Saturday) of order.

Of course if I want to wait 9and save somewhat) www.aimsurplus.com usually has excellent prices listed and shipped and their customer service is top notch. they are the closeest to being my "go to" online source as any, but frequently their selection is limited.

yeah that's not a sale and just think two months ago it was $16.95 per 100rds. ammo prices going up sure sucks!:banghead:

I am sorry to go against the flow here but i hate with a passion, natchezss.com :fire: i love how they run specials when they, are out of stock, and when they do get it in , hey look a that it ain't on special anymore, or the guy that answers the phone is like "we don't honor that price anymore" they are full of crap all the time and i will never buy from them again. there have been several occasions that I would see an add for some ammo by them, go to order it, at the price that was in the add, and sure enough they wouldn't6 sell it for that price. to me that is bad business. it's not like the add was 3-4 months old it was the add from the same month. i don't get it. the times i did order from them they did get my stuff fast, but because of the above i will not order from them again. especially with Dick's in topeka, and the discount.
