I ordered an M57 from AIM Surplus on Sunday after reading this post (thanks for the idea shotgunjoel). It arrived today, Thursday, in the mail (yay C&R!). I chose the handpick option and shipping (to the east coast) cost about $19 (UPS 2nd Day Air).
The overall finish was pretty decent (I'd say 90-95% blued) with mostly holster wear. It was of course covered in cosmoline (but not as bad as some milsurps I've bought). I of course took everything down to clean it out and all the internals were in great shape. The muzzle crown is in good shape and the rifleing is strong...there appeared to be a bit of pitting in the grooves but after a good cleaning it turned out to be minimal (not bad for a corrosive ammo firing gun). The half cock and thumb safeties work very well (I much prefer the thumb safety over the type often found on the Romanian TTs). I haven't had a chance to fire it yet as I'm waiting for the surplus 7.62x25 Polish ammo to arrive from J&G (also ordered Sunday). The pistol came with 2 mags (should be 9rd mags but I can't confirm until my ammo comes in), a cleaning rod and a leather holster (mine was in decent shape).
All in all, I'm very happy with it. The gun feels and points great for me and I'm very happy with the purchase. It should be a fun gun (especially with such cheap ammo...I paid about $20 for 280 rds). I've included some pictures to help you get an idea of what AIM Surplus is currently selling (remember it was a handpicked though). I definitely recommend picking one up and my experience with AIM was great (I called with a question, they picked up after the first ring and quickly and pleasantly answered it). Feel free to ask/pm me if you have any questions about the gun or my experience with AIM Surplus. I hope it turns out as positively for you as it did for me!
Pictures (what you've been waiting for...haha)...sorry if they're a bit blurry, I couldn't find the camera so had to use my cell phone, the finish is a darker blue than it appears in the picture due to the cell phone:
The whole package (note the decent holster...I think one of the better available).
The pistol itself...finish is in good condition, I'd say strong blue over 90-95% (the finish is a bit darker than it appears in the pcitures, sorry for the poor camera).
Disassembled.
With it's American cousin the 1911 (a Cimarron 1911).
Just out of curiosity, I tried it in my 1911 Comp-Tac MTAC Minotaur 1911 IWB holster...it worked pretty well (biggest difference seemingly the width of the trigger guard). I don't think it will replace my 1911 or XD as an EDC but will make a fine range or woods/farm gun.
