Inspired by a previous post, and not wanting to be be low on ammunition should the zombie hordes begin attacking:neener:, I wanted to stock-up (only 5k) on .22 ammunition. I looked for a review of .22 plinking ammunition, but all I could find was a review of premium .22 ammunition.

Does anybody have a link or personal experiences on which ammunition would be best for my bulk purchase. I want clean, accurate and cheap ammunition, that I can buy by the case.

I've been liking Federal bulk packs from Wally World.

Keep it dry.

Remington Golden Bullets shoot well for me, but they've oxidized. I don't know if I'd keep a back-stock of a lot of them.

9 boxes isn't THAT much.

I was going to recommend the Remington Gold, but I wasn't aware of the oxidation...

Federal Bulk would be good, but while you're at it stock up on cleaning supplies (the federals gum up my 1022 awefully quick)

Federal 550 bulk packs. I find the Remington to be very dirty. Another shooter also reported this experience with me in another thread.

I have set aside 10 boxes of them. I am also now only buying .22 firearms. I have enough others.

I've been very happy with CCI Blazer ammo. I stocked up on several cases a few years ago when Midway had it on sale for something like $100 a case, and still have some left. Reliable, accurate, consistent. I may have had a misfire or two, but that is out of nearly 20K rounds so far.

Maybe I got an especially good lot, but all of my bull barrel 10/22s shoot groups with it that are about as good as any high velocity load I've tried. Pretty clean, too.

Remington Thunderbolts are excellent in mine. I bought a case (5,000 rounds) for $99.00 through Dunhams.

Also, don't overlook the Aguila Colibri. It is a 20 grain, powderless .22LR that fires at 550 FPS. It is quieter than any BB gun or pellet rifle I have ever heard, and deadly accurate. Here's an example of the ammo's quality:

I'm surprised, my uncle is still shooting a bunch of them he bought 20-odd years ago. He stores them on a closet shelf in the basement.

I find the Remington Golden Bullet have more squib rounds per box than anything else (still very few, though). I prefer the Federal bulk pack for general plinking through my Heritage Rough Rider and Remington 510, and CCI Mini-Mag for "quality" ammo.

Thunderbolts left so much lead in my barrel that it came out like a sleeve. I won't shoot them anymore.

I shoot almost exclusively Remington Golden Bullets (bought some today in fact), but I don't have them around long enough for any problems to develop. Federals and CCI Blazer have both given me fits (that was in my Walther P22, notoriously picky). In my Ruger 10/22 when I use the 25 round banana magazines I prefer hyper velocity, so I use Yellow Jackets or Viper.

1) CCI Mini-mag 40 grain. high velocity
2) CCI Mini-mag 40 grain. Subsonic
3) CCI Blazer 40 grain
4) CCI CB long 29 grain

Remington Golden Bullets shoot well for me,
I have used a lot of that myself, in my model 60 with no issues at all.
I also have a lot of the "Thunderbolt" and "Wildcat" from Remmington and Winchester, respectively, that I got from my dad that he had for quite a few years and it also all worked fine. Lots of people seem to report problems with the "Thunderbolt" stuff though, I just havent experianced any personally.

1) CCI Mini-Mag, though they are a little pricey.

2) Federal Champion Target

3) American Eagle Copper Coated

4) Winchester T22 Target

I have a brick of "Peters" western ammo from 10 years ago that I think was manufactured by Remington. Seems to shoot fine. (I just don't shoot that much .22lr.)
