I am choosing between Milsurp, Winchester, Ruger or Browning? Any suggestions? Want the best bang for my buck.

I assume you are talking bolt guns. It depends on what you want. Then Winchester may have the better accuracy and most likely will have the better trigger.

I settled on Ruger bolt guns a few years ago for a few reasons. The foremost is their scope mounting system. I really like it and can't stand seperate mounts and rings. I also like their steel mag base and trigger guard. Finally, they are made in the USA.

Their triggers are a crap shoot but if you try them before buying you can stumble across a good one. I also like the style of their safety.... however the safety operation is a crap shoot too and some make it through that are so stiff they almost can't be operated without completely losing a shooting grip. I would never order or buy a Ruger without inspecting it first.

The Ruger accuracy is generally OK in my experience, but nothing to shout about.

I'd vote Browning.
Or CZ, or TIKKA.

But your question is like which is better, blonds, brunettes, or redheads.

If you want iron sights and cheap surplus corrosive ammo, buy a mil-sup.
If you want an accurate rifle you can mount a scope on, get something else.

It's hard to go wrong with any of them.
But I'd still vote for the Browning.

I doubt his buck cares either way!! :D

smoothmetal, you need to be more specific. What are you going to do with this rifle ... it does matter you know.

All but one of my bolt action rifles are CZ. My only non CZ bolt is an older Winchester Model 69A rimfire. Of the rifles you've listed the Browning would be a good choice. I own a couple of Browning semi autos and both have been great shooting guns. I've heard nothing but good things about their bolt action rifles as well.

I am with 1858 here. What are you banging with your buck? If for hunting, you have several other choices out there that are in the same, if not lower, price bracket and would serve you just as well if not better. Savage, Weatherby, Tikka, Thompson Center, and Marlin just to name a few.

Milsurps are a breed of their own. Some can be made into fine, useful weapons while others aren't worth the gas to drive to pick one up.

If it were me, Savage has really stepped up to the plate over the past 15 or so years and have a VERY fine offering of rifles for various duties. Hard to beat the factory trigger from Savage from most ANY factory rifle. Accuracy right out of the box is pretty much assured. They may not be the prettiest girl on the block but you can bet they are well worth the price of a date :) Not to mention they are MADE IN AMERICA!!!!!

I like the X Bolt.

Have been a M70 and M77 guy my whole life but think the X Bolt will be the next one.

There is no 'best rifle brand', any more than there is a best vehicle brand. Go to your local gun shop and handle a few. Then pick the one you like most.
Milsurps require some knowledge. Each one has its own quirks. Ammo isn't always readily available or is expensive for some too.

For an accurate bolt-action (no matter the application) the TC Venture, Tikka T3, and Howa 1500 are the most accurate rifles out of the box for the price IMO.

And btw ill take dark hair and dark eyes over a blonde any day of the week and twice on Easter Sunday!!

I second the vote on Howa's Model 1500 line...excellent rifle...extremely accurate...I look for value...not the country it was made in!!!!
