I am considering a new rifle. Probably a .270 or 30-06, (I already have a 30-06 and .308, both Browning's). I am considering a Sako 85 stainless, but wondering if there were some better ideas out there, or if I can be influenced to buy something else.

Thanks a lot for your input.

I would recommend a Tikka T3.

I have a T3 Vamint in .308 that I really like. IMHO they are on par with the basic Sako and a whole lot less $$$

Forgot to ask. Is this rifle for hunting, target shooting, SHTF, or what?

Purpose? I just want another rifle. I will probably retire my A-bolt 30-06 and use the new rifle for deer hunting. I am thinking that I should get a 30-06 instead of the .270 so I don't have to buy ammo for another caliber. But I am in my mid-50's now and might be glad to have something with a little less recoil like the .270.

Thanks all.

I will look into the Cooper. I am concerned about it being the cheapest model thy make, but maybe I shouldn't be.

No worries, with the more expensive Coopers you are paying for nicer wood (which is already really nice) and other cosmetics. The mechanical quality is still the same as the higher end models, which is outstanding. Find another rifle with a 1/2 MOA guarantee for less money that looks that good.

If you have a little time and want to customize, you might look at the Mark VII from ER Shaw. You choose from 4 different barrel types, 3 different stocks, barrel length, right or left hand and pretty much any caliber and twist rate you want. Prices are about $700-$1200.

Thanks for the input. Kinda intrigued by the Cooper the more I look at it. Still considering the Sako and any other ideas someone may have.
