The ARMS #18 and the Smith Enterprises mounts are currently the cream of the crop for M14/M1A mounts. ARMS recently revised the design of their mount and a number of owners have reported jamming problems because of empties glancing off the full length rail and dropping back into the action. Most owner have had no problems though.
My personal choice was the Smith Enterprises mount, and I haven't had any problems at all with it.My advice would be to head on over to www.battlerifles.com and do a search on both mounts. You'll find quite a few hits, since that question seems to get asked about once a week. You can form your own opinion from all the responses.

did your smith ent. mount up to the receiver like it should line up, or is it like the arms 18 mount where it doenst fit the new out of spec M1A and you just have to use scope adjustments to make up for the differnce?

Out of spec M1A recielver, ie the "new" stuff from Springfield. If it's out of spec it's junk!
