I have a couple guns, but have not bought for years. I'm getting interested in a 357 magnum, probably 4 inch barrel - new or near new. What are some good sites to visit to look for a 357 S&W, Ruger, Taurus, or Rossi. The best I've found so far is gunbbroker.com, but they seem high. Or is a gun show/gun swap the best place to find a good deal?

I'd appreciate specific sites, or organizations - I've got to beleive there are good sites out there for pistols - I'm just not finding them.

Thanks in advance.

Gunbroker

Auction Arms

Pawn shops

SMALL gun shops

Gun shows

peruse the "marketplace" sections of various gun sites

The deals ARE out there, you just need to decide exactly what you are looking for and how much you are willing to spend, then

look and look and look and be patient

"Classified" section of the local paper. (At least here in TX . . . I don't know if papers in the People's Republic of MN carry ads for guns any more.)

If you are near Fargo, St. Cloud or the Metro Sportsmans Warehouse hands down has the best selection of handguns in the state of MN!
If are in the metro, go to the Gun Stop in Minnetonka. Located at the corner of Excelsior BLVD and Woodhill. Talk to Howard, he the man!

Do a search on one or all of the following: Sturmgewehr.com,GlockTalk.com(High traffic on the For Sale forum),Auctionarms.com.Also pick up every free ad paper you can find, and read it carefully.Sometimes you'll see guns listed in the middle of a paragraph of yard equipment for sale.Check the Yard Sale ads of your local paper.Another idea that has enriched my "firearms collection" is to make everyone you know that isn't gun-hostile aware that you're looking, you never know what people have in their attics that mean less to them than to you,Good luck...

try www.thegunsource.com

I love this website they have good prices on many things and they have a great selection. I got a glock from their sister site topglock.com.

PO (John),

You ROCK! And GS Guns off of Excelsior in Minnetonka ROCKS! They showed me 2 used Ruger Security Six's, 357 w/ 4" barrel, one for $239, and one for $220. The cheaper one looked cleaner - say 4 to 4 1/2 stars out of perfect 5 stars. I picked the cheper one. Had kind of goofy carved wood grip, but I'll replace with Rubber grips for about $17.

Thanks for the tip!

Howard and Larry are good people! They have great prices! And, in the grand scheme of things are about the best bet in the Metro. They get my money! Well, John up front gets most of it!

Woody : Great choice. These revolvers are considered by some to be the best ever made by anybody. They are best "tuned" by being shot, becoming better with many years of use. Mine are both well over 20 years old and are tight as a new gun but very smooth.

Enjoy it.

Yes. I've done some research on the web, and THR, and I only see very positive comments on the secuirty six. I read they were Rugers first dbl action revolver. One author even prefers the six in some ways to the newer GP100.

I DO really like Rugers.

Woody:
The main reason the Six series is no longer made is that Bill Ruger stated the company never made a nickel on them-the desigh was expensive to produce, and required hand work to final fit the tight tollerances. THey are exceptionally strong, accurate revolvers, and in my opinion cannot be beat for defense use. They will handle any load, and they ALWAYS work.
I really like them alot. :)

Going back to your original question, I have always had better luck at gun shows as far as saving money. You get to look the gun over before you buy and there are no FFL fee nor freight. I've bought a lot of stuff from Cebela's, not firearms, but we were over at the Cebela's store yesterday and it was elbow to elbow traffic. While my daughter shopped the clothing section I went up to the handgun section and got sticker shock at both the new and used prices. I didn't know they carried so many used handguns. Priced very close to the new ones.

jondar,

Yes. My experience too. Most retail shops are outrageous. The shop where I got my Security Six is kind of this hole in the wall. The guys were polite enough - but there was definately no glitz to their shop. Just crusty old guys (and a couple younger) that were fairly quiet, but really new their stuff. I'll definately go back. Really liked the place.
